B A S S E R Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 to get out on the water!!! But here in Northern Illinois it will another 7 weeks until the ice is gone :'( I just need to hear that line whiz off my spool and the splash of a monster bass leaping out of the water. I need to rip some traps and watch the rod bend. I have a serious case of cabin fever as bowhunting is over and bass fishing hasnt started. I ice fish a little bit but I don't drink so I don't find it as fun. Help get me through this!! Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 I feel for you. One time I couldn't contain the urge so I went ahead to a nearby pond and most of it had forzen over. Initially I was bummed, but the urge to fish trumped sanity. I found a few big rocks and started throwing them into the pond, rainbow style and a few managed to bust through the ice. Instead of casting, I skipped my bait on top of the ice to let it slide into the intended hole. Well, I did go home skunked, but it sure beat leaving a warm bed at home (sarcasm). It was an 22 degree day. Fish tough or stay home. Should have stayed home. ;D Quote
ring fry Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Sounds like it's time for a Texas road trip. Quote
dulouz Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I feel your pain. Iowa isn't any better. I got the BPS Strike game for Wii. That helped for awhile. Quote

Yeah that game is fun but only helps for a little while. I'm going for all of the legendary fish right now. And I wish I could take a road trip to texas right now. In a few weeks I'm going down to Carbondale to visit the school and do some fishing down there. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 It's kinda fun flipping a jig in the snow at various objects seeing how close you can get to those yard objects. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 -20F here last night.... Nasty stuff! -5.3 °F here, with the sun shining, LOL. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 -20F here last night.... Nasty stuff! -5.3 °F here, with the sun shining, LOL. It's the wind chill that bothers me the most.It stings any part of your body exposed. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 20 below wind chills is what shuts things down around here. No snow days for us! Quote
MNGeorge Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Here in MN, Bass season doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend for the majority of the state, so don't be looking for any sympathy from up here. :'( Roadtrip VI, Kentucky Lake, 4/17 to 4/22 is my light at the end of the tunnel. Quote
pitchin fool Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Soon as the ice is off the lakes...hello iowa fishing lisence!!! Quote
Pierre Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I hear you man up here in the north it is a pain, I probably have longer than you do. But I can't wait! Quote
Owasco Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 -15 last night here. Still about 3 below on a sunny day. It's sickening. At this rate we won't be on the water untill mid summer! July can't get here soon enough. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 We have several decent powerplant lakes down here in central IL. Me personally am waiting untill at least several days straight of 35 degree weather to get back to them though. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hang in there man! I'm fighting my cabin fever with fishing and hunting games.....at least I don't get skunked with them as often! ;D Quote
L a r r y Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Ahhhhhh a CHILLY 50 degrees here today........Man where are my long johns Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 Imagine the difference between what an 85° day feels like and your 50° day. Now, plunge your hand in a bowl of ice water. OK, that's your 80° day. Its 35° colder than that. Quote
basspro96 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 53 above zero in the great state of tennesee today! Fish are bitin good! My Buddy has caught about 4 4+ pound spotted bass in 2011...ITS AWESOME! Quote
CJ Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hmmmm...I'm going fishing Friday. That gives you 4 days to get down here! LOL Quote
wisconsin heat Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 it was almost -40 a couple days ago over here Quote
B A S S E R Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I spent the last 4 hours torturing myself reading and rereading the BPS 2011 Master Fishing Catalog. I almost went to the back on break to pick up a Revo Winch/Crankin Stick combo. Anyone use this reel? I love my other Abu's Quote
dulouz Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I bought my license yesterday just to cheer myself up. I am constantly studying the BPS catalogue. I frequently sneak down to my work bench and experiment with different rod/reel combinations. Quote
B A S S E R Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 flipped in my basement for a little bit today. Quote
