Super User BASSclary Posted January 31, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2011 No one is saying that you need a boat to catch quality fish, you have a better chance of doing so. Not all shoreline is accessible by foot , but it is by water. This isn't my contest though, so do whatever you want. I agree with this. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 31, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2011 How about this. There will be Boaters and Non-boaters category if it's my contest. For each category there will be a division for every state, and within that an under 18 subdivision, and an over 18 subdividion. Every one will get assigned a number, and It must be included in the picture with your bass and its length, and would be assigned points via AMI calculator. A tie breaker would be width, so take a picture of that too. Photos should also be good enough quality and size to be able to read the tape measure. Anything else I left out? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Anything else I left out? BASSclary, It is your contest. Which means you would be in charge of keeping track of the entries and have final word. So 2 categories boater/non-boater, with 2 sub categories <18yoa/>18yoa Biggest 5 fish bag based on AMI calculator.(the calculator compensates for the state variences) Each contestant will be assigned a # before the contest starts.(You need to have a final sign up date and a final weigh in date) This # will be photographed with each bass entered. The photo also includes the fish laying alongside a tape measure to verify length. By width, I assume you mean girth. This would need to be measured with a soft tape wrapped around the fishes widest point. First prize is bragging rights? You can make it interesting and have all the entrants pony up a $10 gift card from BPS or Cabelas. Payout 1st 50% 2nd 30% 3rd 20%. Just a suggestion. Will there be a side pot for big bass? Bc, you will have your work cut out for you. People will enter every bass they catch and you will have to keep track of all this as well as verify the ami results. Are you sure you're up for this? Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 31, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2011 By width, you nailed it. A soft rule around the chunkiest part of the bass. You seem to get my set of rules so far. I also like the payout idea in giftcards, would everyone be willing to donate a $10 gift card to a set place, like BPS or ***? A Big Bass side pot could also be factored in. And how does 1 month to get your limit sound? When would you guys like the dates to be? I was thinking May 15 - June 15 might be good. Obviously you will have to sign up before a predetermined date, and submit your catch before a predetermined date. And slonezp, I think I can do it. It may be a bit of a challenge, but I think I can handle it Quote
shimmy Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I hope this thread doesn't go unnoticed. I think this is a great idea. I don't think you should do it by age, might take the fun out of it. Second, it should be by state, it would become more interactive on this site because yeh, some states are going to have to forfeit during the prespawn and not even make it to the spawn! 1. Do it by state, get more interaction on this site and more people involved, plus more fun! 2. have a recording of the day and weight. (not a picture) -i know, many of us catch our bigguns when the camera is not with us or we forgot the scale, but the videos would be authentic and a lot of fun for us to watch. 3. Have a spring champ, summer time champ, and a fall time champ. I know i would love to follow a thread like this or even a section if we made it specifically for the task. I am pretty sure everyone on this site would love to check a thread as such. More interaction, more advertising opportunities for Glenn and all, everyone wins! Sets the hook, and its a big bass. Super User BASSclary Posted January 31, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Maybe we could get a company/companies to sponsor such an event? Quote

Shimmy The AMI calc takes state into consideration, so we wont have to do it by state. And getting a video may be harder for some than taking a simple photo. I'm not so sure about a spring, summer, and fall champion. Maybe if the first one goes well! And If I get this under way, its own section or even a sticky would be really nice to help people follow it better. Quote
Hamby Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I participate in something like this for WI. We go each week by length. Biggest fish wins. The length of the fish also adds up for points towards AOY. 20" bass gets 20 points, regardless of whether it wins or not. The guys who run it make lures. The AOY for 2010 gets to design a bass jig, gets a certain number of them, and that jig design is sold with their name on it. Quote

Like Francho said, don't overcomplicate it. Sponsors = complicated. JMO Give the boy a break. His idea, his efforts at getting sponsors, his record-keeping of all entries, him being put in charge of setting up an offical entry form, official rules, and judging all entries. Make a sticky that is kept up to date! Let's have Glenn come up with a new title like "AOY Coordinator" and let BC run the show. Then the rest of us can have "fun" keeping the boy in line! ;D Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 LOL good point. Knock yourself out BC. Quote

Super User senile1 Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 We do it in the spring usually. Biggest fish in a certain window.. Either way if we did 5 biggest in a year I'm sure one of the Cali dudes, Paul, or Randle would take it. Not much of a competition in my opinion. The contest that Tin mentions is simple for everyone to keep up with and it accounts for the size of fish in your state. Your biggest fish within a specific time period is compared to your state record and the person with the highest ratio wins. If someone wants to develop another online tournament I guess that's his or her prerogative. Quote
