Super User bilgerat Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 As I stare out the window at the latest 8" of snow and drive by countless frozen solid lakes every day, I clearly remember *itching about the relentless heat this past summer and how it negatively impacted my fishing. I guess there is something to that old saying about being careful what you wish for Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Yep - it comes back at you... Hang in there - you'll eventually get some soft water... : 9 of my 11 lakes were mostly iced-out yesterday and I fished for about 2 hours. Water temp was still 39-40 though so no fish for me. I'm leaving in a few minutes to try about 5 of the lakes. It was sunny yesterday, and sunny and warmer today so water temps might get up to 45 by mid-day. I might still just haul water but it will be nice to be outside and get some casting practice... ;D Quote
Hamby Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I don't remember any days where the heat was bothersome...so i think i'm safe to wish for warmer weather. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 I have 10' plus snow banks at the end of my driveway, I'll take the heat we got last summer...1 drawback was cutting the grass in the heat and then jumping in the shower and still sweating during it. I can do without that! ;D Quote

We got nailed last Thursday which contributed to the snow bank hgt. About a week prior to that it rained which knocked it down a bit otherwise it would have been much higher. It's been about 38 degrees for 3 days which melted is down a bit, but we're supposed to get nailed again mid-week. Today I went thru 2 towns to get my son to hockey, both towns had excavators and loaders widening the streets and knocking snowbanks down. To be honest, our inland waters needed this. Quote

I've seen the news where you guys have been getting a lot of snow this year, but 10' snow banks must be amazing. Around here we've just had a cold winter more than a snowy one. Of course I live just far enough away from the big lake to avoid most of the lake effect snow. Are people driving on your lakes? We just had the annual car races here last weekend on one of our lakes. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 Lund Explorer: We have not had this much snow (for January) since 95/96 if I heard the reports correctly. This winter is not a yearly occurance. I live near the ocean/freeze line area where we can get a lot of snow or not much during the season. To be honest, we have been pretty lucky for the last few years, except for the spring floods we had last year which has never happened in my lifetime if I remember correctly. I can't comment on car races on frozen lakes. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 30, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 30, 2011 At least for this region, we aint seen nothing yet. Traditionally our monster snowstorms come in February and March. Quote

Us as well, we're not outta the woods yet. We had 2' of snow April fools day back back in 95. It's La Nina! Quote
