Nibbles Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 "Power fishing." And by that I mean zooming around in a boat constantly changing spots and never throwing a lure in the same place twice because the trolling motor is always at full throttle when the outboard isn't. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Swim baits for sure. I'm still going apply them but it's not my forte at all. The Senko won a Top 50 BASS event at Clear Lake and another western open BASS at Clear lake. Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hmmmm.....I dont really think i loathe any but theres a few I'm pretty sketchy with like punching. I don't know if i have that patience lol but i haven't tried it a whole lot. We need to try it more this year Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hmm... Seems kinda silly to be dissing a bait that has probably won more amateur tournaments in the last ten years than all other lures combined. If there has ever been a MAGIC bait, it's the Senko. 8-) I don't recall a professional tournament that has been won using a senko. They are good baits but they are boring to fish. I feel that if they are hitting a senko I can catch them on other things that I have confidence it. I can't count how many times my partner started waxing them on a senko and I would just pull out a 1/4 oz jig with a Rage Chunk and catch more weight than him out of the same school of fish. To each their own. Not won but trust me the Senko and many other stickbaits help guys out big time a lot of times. One of the most productive baits there is Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Aceman, if you have ever thrown out a live bait, and then just sat there and did nothing, you were not fishing it correctly. Live bait keeps me as busy as any of the artificial lures I throw. Come to think about it, it keeps me busier than some artificials..... RW, I'd say if their has ever been a "Magic Bait" it's the lowly nightcrawler But what's really funny, is how few people really know how to fish them to their full potential. As for artificials, no other lure has ever been so consistently hot for me, with Cali trout-eaters than the 8" Hud. Whatever color. #5 or #12. But hey about Senko's, I've certainly never said they were not a fish catching lure ! Some BIG fish too ! I just never wanted to fish them because everybody and their grandmother was fishing them..... and I was not after the fish that everybody and their grandmother was catching. As for them being slow, or boring, I couldn't care less ! As far as that goes, I'll do whatever it takes. Peace, Fish Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Bass_Akwards It's weird, but if you stick me in a car in any sort of traffic, whether I'm in a hurry or not, I inevitably get completely impatient and want to stab myself in the ear with a pen. You put me in a store or airport or wherever where there's ANY sort of a line I have to stand in, and just watch me start getting irritated and annoyed and antsy. Same with riding in airplanes or most other spots where I need to be patient. But you put a fishing rod in my hand, and I can literally huck a Senko (or whatever finesse lure) 50 yards and CRAWL it back to shore or the boat. I'm talkin' 3-5 minute retrieves and even longer if need be. I just LOVE getting lulled to sleep after a couple Senko casts, feeling zen like and peaceful and then out of absolutely nowhere 60 seconds into a quiet retrieve you feel that "TICK TICK" on the line. How can anyone not just LOVE that adrenaline rush on the fist "tick" Then the rush gets even BETTER as the line starts moving and you know you have to start reeling in that slack line in order to stick that fish but good. Then the rush gets even better still as you drop that rod tip and then pull back hard, setting that hook and buttoning that sucker. WHAT A FEELING!! You get 3 seperate rushes on one cast! A free buzz x3!!!!!!!! Fantastic post I can SOOO totally relate ! Peace, Fish Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 Fishing around bilgerats sock juice. ;D Can't say that I loathe any kind of technique, although the only time I change from the norm is when I have no clue on getting the fish to bite. There's a time and a place for all of them and it's just a matter of having the knowledge to know what to use when. I guess I loathe the fact that sometimes I'm completely clueless. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Crankbaits. Never been able to catch a fish on one exept when I fouled hooked one with all trebles on a deep diving Rapala. Don't understand the hatred toward the carolina rig haha. Seems like when times are tough I either go to that or shakey head. But, all depends where I'm at. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I'd say if their has ever been a "Magic Bait" it's the lowly nightcrawler True. There's not a fish that swims that won't eat a nightcrawler. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 Carolina Rig - just can't seem to catch a fish this way. I'm 39 years old and still haven't caught a fish on the c-rig. I think I would rather dye my hair pink than fish a c-rig. Quote

bmadd Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Fluke, the senko is what Alton Jones throws pretty much every tournament. Also, Edwin Evers used it in a rotation of two other baits to win the PAA tournament this summer. I like to use a carolina rig when fishing deep to help figure out what the bottom is like. I don't like when that is how I have to resort to catching fish all day. Quote

And by that I mean zooming around in a boat constantly changing spots and never throwing a lure in the same place twice because the trolling motor is always at full throttle when the outboard isn't. I'm with you there. If I make the deliberate effort to go to a spot, I expect to be there long enough to work it thoroughly. It doesn't mean I will sit in one spot indefinately but one cast to a sunken tree isn't going to cut it. I'm not afraid to turn off the trolling motor and lowering the anchor if I feel it's merited. Super User firefightn15 Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 Dropshot. I wash my socks in the lake and hang them on my fishing line and watch them dry. It's just as exciting. Sock in the lake? This may be your problem with successful drop shotting. There's more productive ways of scenting your soft plastics. ;D BTW, no ice fishing for this cheese head. The drop shotting thing is out too. 8-) Quote
VABassin'14 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Senko's ..... I'd rather watch paint dry. ;D ;D ;D I'm with ya senkos is for beginners and kids ;D ;D ;D Amen. Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Man, I swear if any more of you guys bad mouth Senko's, I'm just going to have to try throwing them one of these days.... well.... maybe not LOL Fish Quote
B A S S E R Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 whats all the hate towards senko? Whats wrong with catching fish? Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Yes, whats wrong with a senko? If the fish get lock jaw somethimes it takes a senko to pry them open. Wackey rigged senkos thrown at the base of reeds or whatever you call them can be a deadly summer tactic. Clancy W Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 There is nothing wrong with a Senko, or a deep crankbait, or a C-rig, or a drop shot, or any of the baits mentioned in this thread. It is simply about what doesn't work for you or your style. Clancy, I completely agree that there are times when a Senko will out fish other baits, and I always have one tied on and ready to go. It fits my style. I hate deep cranks, but KVD has made a gozillion dollars fishing them. Fish Chris has caught many world class LM on live bait. Others think live bait is cheating. : The only real winner is the bait monkey. He likes em all... Quote

OHIO Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I don't like fishing a Senko on the bottom, but it can be good as a topwater bait. Rig it wacky and just skim it across the surface. It can be killer. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 About the only time I use a senko or any other plastic worm is when I'm doing some non serious fishing in my community ponds. I toss out the senko and just walk at a slowish pace trolling the senko behind me, I call it shore trolling and it is fairly effective. Boring yes, but I'm really just walking around and b'sing with the neighbors. Quote
