kicken_bass Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 i fish a back water slot off of a main lake. theres some shoreline shade and some shoreline structure.but mainly heavy weeds. my question is do bass bury themselves in these weeds and if yes how or what do i use to get them out Quote
Glass_Man Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Kicken, I just learned this trick this week on this sight. When you look you can see darker spots in the weeds. This is a irregular or contour bottom. Toss a worm ( I used black with blue soecks ) just past it then work it till it drops into the hole. I got a nice 5 pounder this week doing this. Tight lines Glass Man Quote
playmaker47 Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Find the pockets of these weeds and pitch either a 3/8 to a 1/2 oz. jig in them with a trailor on it of either a twin tail grub or a crawdad. Also try pitching about a 4 or 5 inch tube in there texas rigged with a 1/4 oz bullet weight. A soft jerkbait works on summer days when the water is warm. just twitch it over the top and let it sink in each whole there is. make sure there is no slack in the line cause sometimes the bite will be just a small tap. Also use heavy line for this. My advice is 17 or 20 pound Treilene XT in low vis. green color. Quote
bassmaster043 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Yeah i read that to but when you let it drop in the hole wut do u dont next ? Quote
Chris Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Most of the time they will hit it on the fall. If I don't get a bite right away I just shake it or yo yo it a few times. Quote
mathias Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 You can try a Salad Spoon form Lunker City in satin white and cover all these heavy weeds. You cans retrieve it by a stop and go action and this lure is weedlees and it do an awful action. Quote
squid Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I have caught many bass in thick weeds by accident just the way Glass_man said. How/What you do is let it drop into the hole and then twitch it every now and then. when you least expect it...BAM! you will get a nice strike. Use 14-20lb test when fishing in these too. ;D Quote
tritonman Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Make sure you use a line that does not stretch. When fishin the weeds I use a 20 to 30 pound spiderwire, keep the line taught and lightly touch your finger on the line to feel the bite. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 use a texas rigged plastic worm with some scent on it and cast to the edge of the weeds and work it among the top of the weeds like a snake slizzering along the sand. the lake i fish has huge amounts of milfoil and it works great Quote
Nick.Culver Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 The key to thick weeds is irregularities. If theirs a stump or a log out in the middle of the weeds then fish the log or stump. Thats where your chance of finding a fish greatest. Find the weedline and fish parrallel to the weedline. Also remember to research the aquatic growth you are fishing. Different weeds grow in different bottoms. Weeds can tell you whether the bottoms hard or soft. Like lily pads. Lily pads grow in soft to medium soft bottoms. This tells you what baits to use as well. Look for a weed point or a hump off the weedline. Any thing thats different from normal is a irregularity. Quote
bradbass Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 trying using a frog bring it in almost as quick as possible keep it on top of the weeds and bring it along the edges of weed or through pocketsm of no weeds also I have luck with senkos 7" good luck Quote
SeanW Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Heavy fliiping is the best way to get to those fish. Up to a 2oz weight if needed. Then pick it a part. Quote

Super User bassfisherjk Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 T-rigged Baby Brush Hog works great also.like everyone already stated, pitch in holes and target anything different along the weedline.Good Luck! Quote
