Not sure where to put this, so I'll leave it here for now.

So I've been reorganizing all my tackle yet again due to cabin fever and have come to the realization that I simply have way too much tackle. I'll never be able to go through all of this stuff because I know I'll probably get distracted by all the new lures developed every year.

So I want to donate this stuff to kids who love to fish but perhaps can't always get their hands on the stuff they want. I've got a few older model baitcasters that have a little rash but work perfectly fine(9/10 mechanically at least), as well as a bunch of plastics and some hardbaits. I'd much rather have someone put these to good use than have them sitting in the corner collecting dust. I know I could probably sell my extra stuff on the flea market, but I guess the Grinch in me is just absent this week.

So my question is - does anyone on here know of any good kids that love to fish that could use some extra tackle but perhaps can't afford it? If so, PM me and we can work out the details of how to get my tackle into that kid's hands. First come first serve basis, although I will probably divvy up the stuff between 2-3 kids. If you're a new member, I don't want to be a dick, but I'll probably require some sort of verification of legitimacy.

Thanks,

James

Police departments

As well as the above suggestions

FYI, nice snowfall you guys have gotten this week. My wife is in your city(Champaign) working this week and sent me pictures last night. She will be there until thursday night and she has been taking a cab to and from the dialysis facilities that she has to go to to train employees.

Cast for Kids immediately comes to mind, however, Reel American Heroes Foundation is also planning on giving the kids of the military families some goodies, including rod/reel combos, so anything else that can get thrown in there for 'em is also greatly appreciated. The site has all the info.

I have signed up for the big brother program here in Maryland, and I believe it is better than just donate your stuff to a charity. Because I get to interact with the kid, and show him some stuff. Then to make it better, I will give him a set of rod/reel to get him start with some worms, etc.  Sometime, my friends will give me stuff to give away when I take the kids out.

If I just donate my stuff, then I don't even know if it was put in a good use. With the program, at least I can make sure it gets to the right person. Donating to a charity is great as well, but I just like the interaction with the kids and make sure my stuff will be in good use.

Thanks for the advice about the big brother/big sister thing Lee, I'll definitely look more into that. The only worry I have is having enough time since I am a college student and also do work a job as well as an internship. I'm on break right now, but Spring semester resumes for me on the 18th.

Shane J, the reel American heroes thing looks promising, I'll definitely look more into that.

darn I wish I was a lucky kid

In their defense they can't make as much $$$ as you to blow on tackle.  ;D

At least, that's where all my spending money goes. Better spent on tackle than booze I suppose.  :P

True but in my defense kids dont have any expenses! haha

"least its not booze" haha the amount of times I have used that to justify spending money on fishing is not even funny

BASS clubs have as part of their charter, a you fishing day. My club does, but only for members. You might contact a local fishing club as see if they would be interested in your donated tackle for handouts, grab bags, prizes... Kids might not know how to use the stuff (at least until an angler shows them at the event), but they sure do love getting tackle given away!
