SeanW Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 are you ready for it? Pre-Spawn is just about on top of us here in California. January is when those big girls are really feeding up for the spawn. Feb they are giant and catchable. I just love this time of year. Ive been catching some really nice spots and smallies recently, but January usually signals the LM bite coming on. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 5, 2011 Super User Posted January 5, 2011 Sounds exciting - have fun! I'm excited too - my surface water temps are holding at 40deg ...but will probably be back in the 30s by the end of the week... ;D ;D Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 5, 2011 Super User Posted January 5, 2011 You're lucky. I went fishing the other day and snagged an ice skater. He shot a puck at me. ;D Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 5, 2011 Super User Posted January 5, 2011 They sure are. High 70 today, Monday a five day weather front due to hit. Lows in the teens and highs in the high 20s. Snow and freezing rain for three of the days predicted for the Houston area. Naturally, i have two tournaments set for January 15th and 16th. Sucks Quote
farmpond1 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Yep, they're changing alright-changed from really cold to just cold. Sigh. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 5, 2011 Super User Posted January 5, 2011 The only change we're about to see around here is going from a hand auger to the gas powered kind! ;D Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 5, 2011 Super User Posted January 5, 2011 Individuals or groups of bass have begun making short reconnaissance trips into creek channel coves. Only when the water temperature is stable for a couple of days will any appreciable number of bass remain for long. Look for bass on primary points, secondary points, and feeding flats adjacent to deeper water. Right now everything is based on the timing of frontal conditions which are not cooperating with the weekend angler. Two things I keep within arms reach are a 1/2 oz Rat-L-Trap in Red Chrome and a rain suit. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 yea i think cold front coming through this weekend with some flurries / light snow coming in... Quote
MNGeorge Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 You guys are breaking my heart...Bass season doesn't open in Minnesota until mid May for the northern part of the state and not until memorial Day weekend for the rest of us. :'( However, thanks to the 6th Annual Road Trip, Bass season for me this year will open 4/17 on Kentucky Lake. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 6, 2011 Global Moderator Posted January 6, 2011 The only change we have coming is now instead of just being cold it's supposed to start snowing and then drop some freezing rain on top of that and then get even colder. I'm sure glad there's warmwater discharge lakes, otherwise I'd have to tie a tennis ball on and start pitching to the dogs in the back yard. They're not very picky and they do pull alot of drag . tnbassfisher Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Is there any sort of exact temperature where the bass move into the shallows and start feeding more before the spawn? If so, what? Quote
