flippin and pitchin Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Yup. It's a beautiful place and the drift is awsome. If you want big fish you might be dissapointed but 100 fish days are not uncommon. It's been years since I was there and they say the fishing has only improved. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 2, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 2, 2011 Been down the John Day River several times. Excellent fishing. Here's an article I did on it: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_river_fishing.html A year later, I did it again in the early fall and caught several smallies over 4lbs - the largest was just under 6lbs. Either the fish aren't very big or they like to fight them down to total exhaustion before releasing them. Most of the fly guys I know around here use 7 to 9 wt. rods and spin fishermen I know rarely go below 10# test. Just my $.02. Quote
