Super User Munkin Posted December 12, 2010 Super User Posted December 12, 2010 A big annoyance is guys like the one in the picture. Have the whole potomac river to fish and this guy comes into where a friend and I were fishing. The area is a warm water discharge, we were casting to the other side. He saw us doing this and came right through were we were casting. The warm water flows from here into the main river and provides 1/4 to 1/2 mile of fishing areas. Most is unreachable from shore, perfect for a boat. Got a little funny because he wanted to fish one particular spot. But a group a kayak competition was using the upper part of the discharge for a competition. The pool this idiot wanted to fish was their turn around area. Got a little of his own medicine before he left. The old Potomac bent pole pattern! Just drive up and down the river until you see someone catch a bass then pull 25' from them and start casting. > I had a guy do this to me at Big Slackwater and it really ticked me off! He is coming upriver at like 60mph sees me catch a fish and immediately shuts down. Next thing he does is drop the TM and come in right beside me. At one point I thought he was going to hit my boat and he did cast over my line he was that close. Whether he was just that ignorant or a complete Ahole I don't know? I can tell you he received several WOT fly byes. Allen Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Other people! 1. Parents who don't watch their children who come too close to me and get in the way. 2. People who yell and scream around me. 3. People who throw things into the lake like rocks. 4. Boats that don't respect others while on the water. X2!!!!! I fish at local city park lakes, and families with little kids running around really set me off, they are screaming, chasing ducks, standing too close to me... And when I ask them nicely to move back, they only take a step back so I have to ask them again in a more stern tone, and they take another step back, and they dont get the fact that they will get smacked in the head with my rod or lure if they are too close to me( I wish that would happen so they learn...). Another thing about kids is that their parents dont watch them. And the last, most irritating thing is when there are field trips to the lake and there are 15+ kids running around yelling and screaming, and when I throw my swimbaits and pull them out of the water, they always seem to notice and ALL of them run over screaming "HE CAUGHT A FISH!!!! HE CAUGHT A FISH!!!" and gather around me and ask me if I caught a fish and if they could look/touch it. I have had this morbid urge to say "Go ahead, and see what happens..." hoping they would stick themselves on one of the trebles and leave me alone. I know that sounds A**holish of me, but they need to learn somehow... Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted December 13, 2010 Super User Posted December 13, 2010 So for all you guys that hate the wind, and the bouncing mushroom anchors that go with it..... Have you ever tried using an old window weight? I have several in the 20lb range that I use as drag anchors. They are about 2 feet in length, and not much bigger than a beer can in width. But if you hang them far enough back off of the boat, the entire length of the weight lays on the bottom which produces a lot more drag than a mushroom anchor. You can also move forward by simply hitting the trolling motor as their shape is fairly snag free. Just an idea to help fight the wind. Quote

BassThumb Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Cottonseeds, at least I think that's what they are, that collect on the water's surface and have a tendency to collect on the line. They can be a real pain to pick off, especially on braided line. I often cut the line and slide the mess off rather than try to pick it off with my fingernails. I absolutely love fishing in the wind, it has so many fish catching advantages, and the heat and humidity don't really bother me as long as I can jump in and lounge on the shady side of the boat for a few minutes to cool off mid way through the trip.
