farmpond1 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 If you were, by some divine mandate, allowed to fish only with a Zebco 202 combo and the stuff that's usually part of one of those cheapy starter kits , would you still bother? As a twist, wouldn't it be kind've funny to restrict a professional tournament to Snoopy or Barbie poles? Maybe as a charity event. Okay, I know I'm strange but boredom does that to a person. Quote

Super User Alpster Posted November 30, 2010 Super User Posted November 30, 2010 My PB 6.5 lbs was caught on a Zebco 202 because my fancy rig broke. I borrowed it off my buddy, had it in his truck for his kid. I did however use a big juicy Arkie jig and Uncle Josh black widow eel so I had a decent lure. The short answer is YES, if it's all I had, I would fish with it. You are way too bored brother. Ronnie Quote

OHIO Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Most likely. I learned to fish on those, so it wouldn't be much different than fishing as a kid. I probably wouldn't fish for bass as much as I do now. I would fish for gills and crappie more. Quote

Shad_Master Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Our local club has an "informal" tournament circuit that we fish on local lakes and is more for bragging rights than anything else. We have been discussing our schedule for next year and I proposed a "back to basics" tournament for one of the events - we only fish from the bank, only one rod/reel, live bait would be an option and we would assign points based not only on size of the fish but for species. You would have thought I was proposing that we fish naked - the response was an overwhelming "NO!!" from the boaters - the non-boaters in the club thought it was a cool idea. Funny how we get locked into our high $ tools and toys - I'm pretty sure we all started this way and grew to where we are now. Quote

NateFollmer Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'd go for it. I use the old spincaster when I take the boy out Those cheapo lures that come in those kits are great for panfish. Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted November 30, 2010 Super User Posted November 30, 2010 You bet. I still have a Zebco 202 and a cheap 5 1/2' casting rod so I've already got the gear. I would like the option of having a better bait selection though... : Quote
