Ok, I was out by the canal (land fishing) the other day in 20 ft deep of water when I noticed a bass that was super close in the shallows about a foot away from the bank near a pile of tall dead grass. I thought well, let me see If I can get his attention, so after several attempts of using a tube, lizard, and a swimming senko, the bass seemed to be totally uninterested. Well, I thought maybe he just isn't hungry, so I tried the 'annoy the crap out of him till he bites' approach, but to no avail. All he kept doing was going back and forth to the center of the canal and kept going up and down the side of the bank, doing circles. What the heck is up with that?  Every once in a while I'll also see gar really close in the shallows - my neighbor said it was because of the oxygen levels?

I've seen bass just cruise the banks before and be totally uninterested in anything I could offer them. That's usually in the spring and summer though but I would imagine they could do it any time of the year. I've see bass that appeared to be sick do the same thing too.

Yeah, its a whole different world with the weather here in Florida. That's why I find myself confused about presentation during the different seasons, because a lot of information on this site is based on northern states where it gets much cooler. I don't think the bass I saw was sick, but who knows. Thanks for posting and letting me know I'm not the only one to experience this, lol.

I think everyones seen times when there was a huge bass sitting there and no matter how many times you cast or how many different baits you throw hes simply not interested.

But there is a possibility you can still make him bite.

I remember one fish i had cast to probably twenty times and he would sit there motionless. I was casting and reeling a tube right across maybe two inches off the tip of his nose and he sit there like it didnt exist. I finally made a cast and pulled the tube right up next to him and as hard as i could i slammed it into the side of his head. Then that fish came alive on me. That fish ended up weighing a little less than six pounds.
