Super User J Francho Posted November 22, 2010 Super User Posted November 22, 2010 So has fluoro. To me, its got to be SI. Its a game changer for tournament fishing. It isn't going to make a champion out of an average angler, but a good angler can cut his/her search time way down. Sunken barge that yielded 50+ fish: Quote

NateFollmer Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Yeah, Side Imaging wins! Sexy Shad was a great suggestion too, I think just about everyone has a form of that color now. Plain and simple, it works, I have caught more fish on that color than any other. If I had to add one thing to this list - Beaver style baits. I know some have been around longer than 5 years, but they have really exploded and are getting better. Quote

Btech Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Id say SI as well, but im surprized no one said " Google Earth " / Similar Programs. Its not quite fishing, and i know its been out a while, but look how many are using it for fishing benifits. A topic of SI photos would be cool - Ill look and see if we have one if not we should make one. Quote

Five-Alive Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 you are all probably right with the structure scan and side imaging but there sure are a lot of guys out there with power poles now too. Quote

Random question tho. I noticed Mark Rose was using 2 depthfinder units up front and 2 in the back during the Chicuamauga tournament. Was he using sidescaning for one and using the other one just to check the movement of his bait? Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted November 22, 2010 Super User Posted November 22, 2010 Could have been several things. He could have one unit dedicated to depth finder/SI use and another unit used only as a GPS. I've noticed that on a bunch of boats. Quote

Super User WRB Posted November 22, 2010 Super User Posted November 22, 2010 This post was under the rods, reels, line etc. section, so for that category it's nanotechnology. For everything else side imaging is the clear winner. The system was used to find the Titanic and now it's on bass boats. Amazing. SI dates back to the 70's and is common on tuna and marlin tournament and long range fishing "salt water" boats. Humminbird came out with affordable SI sonar units for bass boats and Lowrance is offering HDS scanning Elite units at affordable pricing. Agree side and down scanning units are a developing innovation during the last 5 years that will change bass fishing. The fact you need to use scanning sonar with traditional sonar currently makes it costly for the average angler. WRB Quote
