fishermantony Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It's all about the next cast. The excited anticipation of what might be. The pride in the accuracy of it. The desire to use all the skill you can muster to make it better than the last one. If you ever loose the desire to make the next cast then that's when you should hang it up. Until then keep striving to get better. Perfectly said. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 11, 2010 Super User Posted October 11, 2010 No - For a while now, I realize I've been addicted to fishing - and that's that. It could be worse. If I had a cocaine issue, all I'd have to show for it at the end of the day would be a runny nose. Quote
pantherdev Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I am still laughing even as I write this. You must look like Bill Dance on his blooper video. Keep hammerin on 'em and your luck has to change; some day. ;D Quote
bassmanET Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Definitely stay a way from hunting!! ;D Quote
frogflogger Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Next time I'm down in Miami I'll get an obeah man to kill a chicken for you - you watch you'll start catching them - never quit trying Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 29, 2010 Super User Posted October 29, 2010 Short answer. Nope. Quote
DBatey Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 i've been fishing since I was 2 years old, its always been "my thing" Quote
Captain Obvious Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 If it isn't my thing I've just wasted more than half of my youth lol Quote
wisconsin heat Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 today i went three hours without a fish so much as breathe on my lures.... i eventually got bit, but i was using an ironclad bait that really f'd up the hookset, im not using them anymores haha...oh well, laugh it off. had fun anyways ^__^V Quote
Bassin-Yakin Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Yep, I went through these same feelings this year... got me pretty down for a while actually... I moved this past year from fishing smaller reservoirs <1000 acres and having some pretty good success to fishing larger lakes with totally different cover... I was used to fishing weeds, standing timber and lilly pads, and went to fishing steep banks and rock piles... took me a while but I am finally getting more confidence and actually caught two fish over 5 pounds in October... part of it is the time of year, but part of it just comes with time... practice, read all you can, talk to anyone that will talk back...it will get better.. flippin and pitchin Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Many many years ago I had to give up motocross. I was invited to a bass club meeting from a guy who has become a valued friend and fished a club event out of the back with a baitcaster combo that weighed about three pounds and my arsenal of of two black Bomber Bushwacker spinner baits. I didn't know what a jig was. At the end of the day I was cold, wet, tired , my wrist ached like heck and I caught one 12 1/4 inch fish. Iv'e never looked back or thought about stopping. It only gets BETTER. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Man its those rough times that keep me coming back for more! Every hobby/sport you get into will be the same. I can't even remember how many motors i blew when i was drag racing and had to go back to square one. You will be ok man................. Quote
GeKhang Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 i once spent two straight(literally everyday) weeks fishing one spot for about an hour or so each time and caught nothing, and the next morning i threw out a senko by a weed edge and caught like 7 different 2-4lb basses on 7 casts, it was the most amazing morning ever! keep fishing, things will turn around! Quote
KevinS Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Yup. I fished a lot when I was a kid, but only started getting back into it in the last couple months. I've been teaching myself how to use a baitcaster, and getting a feel for fishing again after forgetting pretty much everything. I've had some rough days, that's for sure. Hell, the first time I finally *nailed* the spot I was trying to hit with a baitcaster, I got so excited I forgot to stop the spool and backlashed all over the place:) It's a humbling sport sometimes. But just today, I threw a perfect cast that took advantage of the wind and sort of wrapped a dock from the bank, and I pulled in a 5 pounder that fought like a rabid dragon. What a blast. Good things come. If nothing else, I love being outside in the quiet. It clears my mind like nothing else. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Never. I've been fishing for just shy of 30 years and have loved every second of it. I've seen some cool stuff while fishing in a few different countries. I couldn't imagine not being able to fish. Everybody will have those bad trips. It just happens to be part of the game. Thats why somebody a long time ago invented the saying, "It's called fishing, not catching." Just learn to enjoy the little things. There are far worse things you could be doing. I'd much rather go out and get skunked than be at work. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 It all depends on what you want to get out of it or want to learn. If you don't keep learning, good or bad,or you do what you've always done you will surely get what you always got. How much passion do you have to get better? The frustration makes the rewards, however small, all the better. Yes some VERY crazy things can happen while fishing, anyone can attest to that. I've been on streaks and have thought about throwing in the towel but then things have a way of coming together and I look back and think what a fool I am for even considering giving up. Quote
Juicy Joyce Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Psh... who could give up fishing... Man you've got some bad luck!! Try fishing with different people and see if it helps your luck change. Perhaps they will take you to places you never knew existed or maybe they will show you some techniques you never learned. Or their luck will rub off on you!! Juicy Joyce over and out. Quote
IntroC Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Buy a lure retreiver. I have literally saved hundreds of dollars with one. I use the rope kind and not the telescoping pole. They take a little practice but once you get the hang of them you will hardly ever not get a lure back. Especially with cranks. Its been a long time since I have lost one. It will also give you confidence in fishing the nasty stuff. Quote
