helms83 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Going to a small pond I've never fished before. Been told water is clear and depth is fairly shallow. Not sure about any known structure and forge. I was thinking natural colored lures; shallow cranks, spinners, and topwaters. Any advice? Quote
kickin bass14 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 A shallow diving crank like a baby minus-1 is a great choice. Also, weightless stick baits like senkos or a Case Magic Stik are great options. Senko style lures are my go to choice in new ponds, especially casting them to strucuture like stumps and trees. Quote
OHIO Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 My favorite lures for ponds are topwaters. I like throwing buzzbaits in the morning and late evening and frogs the rest of the day. If I'm not throwing topwaters, I will likely white spinnerbaits, baby brush hogs, or zoom finesse worms. Quote

Just don't be afraid to adjust once you start to figure the pond out. Good luck! Quote
J_Pearson Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Texas-Rigged Fluke, a wacky worm, Floating Rapala, little buzzbait, and a frog...small-pond Bomb Squad. JP Quote
Bass Fisher55 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I find that soft plastic worms you can twitch across the top are great. Banjo minnow is just dynamite on ponds. Quote
steezy Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 In a small pond the Bass will eat almost anything. Early morning and late evening, top water (frogs, buzzbait, poppers) Anytime, try plastics, if the water is not clear then black plastics Shallow areas, small swimbaits and dark craws and spinnerbaits. reelfun Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 you have gotten a lot of good advice so far. two things i would try that having been mentioned are a small white spinner bait. sometimes that will just kill pond bass. and also a fluke. start with watermelon. good luck and be stealthy Quote
helms83 Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Thanks for the tips everyone. I went and caught 5 small bass, and 2 fat catfish, lol. 2 bass were caught on a weightless Baby Craw. 1 bass was caught on a weightless Craw 1 bass was caught on a black Buzz bait 1 bass was caught on a shallow shad color Crankbait The 2 catfish were caught on that same Crankbait. I tried other stuff, but I couldn't get anything going. I actually figured out a pattern for once: 4 bass were caught on the edge of a grassline 10ft from shore, and they wanted a slow presentation. I'm sure I could have killed them if I stayed with a Craw on that grassline, but I wanted to try other things, and maybe find a bigger one deeper. I learned alot from the trip though, it was a good time! Quote
