how to pick good spots in lake that is mostly shallows?

Hey guys,

Been fishing a 100 acre lake recently that is about 60-70% shallows (2-6ft) with tons of lilly pads and weed beds. 

The deeper part of the lake is about 20 ft and there is a nice point that leads into that.  Ive been heading right to that spot and doing okay.  But I feel like Im missing out on most of the lake where all the junk is. 

When I go into the shallows, I usually look for spaces in between the lilly pads where I can see the surface water being blown by the wind.  Or some stumps that are sticking out of water.  Ive caught a few bass in these areas, but Im really just guessing. 

Id like to know what you guys look for when choosing spots in shallows.

I'd look for edges in those weeds and lilly pads, bass love to ambush thier prey on those edges also in shallow water the little things really are important,old stumps or some rocks any little thing thats different. Good luck..

Try to find some structure that is under the water.  This structure will hold bass when it is hotter and if the pond does have some fishing pressure, this will most likely be overlooked by the average joe bass fisherman.  Good luck.

[The one that got away]

I usually fish from a canoe with no fishfinder at a spot that sounds similar to where you fish. I usually concentrate in typical areas (weed beds, downed trees, etc), but yesterday I just let the breeze take me across the middle to the other side. Caught a bunch in the middle of the lake, where I usually don't fish. Give this a shot, you might get surprised. Good luck.
