I'am new to bass fishing and my question is. When fishing shaded cover do you just cast to the shaded side? or do you want your lure to go where the light and the shade meet?

It all depends on what the fish are doing at that specific time on that specific day.  Part of the time they may be holding just inside the shaded area waiting to ambush prey.  As the day moves on and the sun gets higher in the sky, they can possibly push further back into the shaded area.  Bass don't have eyelids, they'll seek cover from the sun as the day moves on.  That doesn't necessarily mean that you won't find them in brightly lit areas throughout the day either.  It's all part of developing a pattern.

The shadows on the water are only one factor.  Also think about what lies on the bottom beneath the shadows- sometimes that is more important than the light penetration.

As has been said, it depends on the fish. Lure placement is sometimes absolutely the difference in catching fish or going home skunked. Sometimes they will be tight to cover and a carefully placed bait that hits them on the nose is the only way to catch them. Sometimes it is a pocket deep in the thickest, nastiest stuff you can find.

Seasonal patterns, and bait speed, depth, size, color, and a countless other factors come into play. There is a lot more to bass fishing than being able to cast accurately; but watch any professional bass fisherman and it quickly becomes clear they are very deliberate in how they work a spot. Lure placement is often the secret that catches that one big fish living in the prime location.

Good luck. Enjoy the process. Bass fishing is a really good time. 8-)
