guilford Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Does anyone have any suggestions on informative books to read or dvds to watch? Quote
backwater4 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I don't know about informative, but Bass Wars is a great read. It goes through a year on the pro trail in the late 80's. There was a series of books made by In Fisherman that were specific to bass, those were very informative. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 If you're a member of B.A.S.S. or N.A.F.C. they both publish very informative bass fishing books. For DVDs check out In-Fisherman or N.A.F.C. Both have great informative DVDs. I would shop for either of these products on e-bay. I've seen multiple titles for $25. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 4, 2010 Super User Posted September 4, 2010 I have created a very large library of DVDs and VHS tapes over the years and here are a few that I suggest you invest in: Kevin Van Dam's 3 DVD set of Pitching to Heavy Cover; Strategies for Changing Conditions; and Proven Spinnerbait Techniques. Ike's Taking the Luck Out of the Equation. Bigmouth; Bigmouth Forever; and Feeding Habits of Bass. This set is the first ones to be produced way back in the 70s and 80s. There are also technique and bait specific productions that you can find at Bass Pro Shops or Cabala's, etc., that are outstanding. For instance, Stacy King's Jerkbait Fishing; the Carolina Rig; and Bassin Blowups are fantastic. Jimmy Houston's Jimmy's Best is excellent and entertaining. If you want to subscribe to a series of monthly DVDs order your $28/month Ultimate Tips and Techniques Series DVDs. You will receive them automatically and they are very good. (FAX 763.577.1298) or Bass CS, PO Box 1592, Minneapolis, MN 55440. Denny Brauer's Jig Secrets to Huge Catches is a winner. For reading pleasure, nothing beats Bassin' Magazine. (800.554.1999) Worth every penny of the subscription cost. There are so many DVDs on the market that you will have to go to BPS, Cabala's or a local tackle shop to see what is available. And you will learn a lot of information you can use to improve your bass fishing. As for books: Knowing Bass by Dr. Keith Jones Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle Bass Strategies by Kevin VanDam Secrets of a Champion by Kevin VanDam Good luck. Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted September 5, 2010 Super User Posted September 5, 2010 In-Fisherman magazine published handbooks on largemouth & smallmouth strategies. If you can get ahold of the Charlie Brewer book on Slider Fishing, it is a good read on the whole attitude of finess fishing. Sooner or later, everyone ought to read Buck Perry's stuff, on Spoonplugging & structure fishing. While much of it is dated, he did invent the language that most of us use to discuss fishing. I'm sure at one time that Homer Circle had some fishing knowledge to impart, but I can't get past his folksy geezer schtick to figure out what that might be. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 5, 2010 Super User Posted September 5, 2010 As mentioned, In-Fisherman has a good series of books. KVD also has a pretty good book if you're looking for little tweaks for popular techniques. Ike's book is an entertaining read and also has some pointers. Quote
micah1990 Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 If you can still find them, I always enjoyed the classic patterns dvd's. Quote
