zaraspook_dylan2 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Looking for some late summer largemouth tactics. Where do you look for them? Baits? Lures? Anything is appreciated! Quote

hookingem Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I'm still catching fish with my jig. Lately I have been trolling as slow as possible and finding any piece of structure visible on my depth finder to throw my jig to. If it doesn't get hit than i will throw the drop shot in the area one time to check that spot again. Another productive pattern is finding deep drop offs the best ones have vegatiation or cover on the sides! and cranking with either my norman dd or the strike king 6XD. Have fun and dont be scared to stray away from the bank! After 9 o'clock in the summer you wont find a good angler flipping shallow cover! Quote
gobig Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 After 9 o'clock in the summer you wont find a good angler flipping shallow cover! I can't say that I totally agree with this statement. I think it depends on the body of water, the species of bass your targeting and what kind of structure and cover is available. Going deep is not always the answer. The fish in my avatar was caught on a BBZ 1 in about 4 ft of water. I was fishing through the lanes in a weed bed. It was the middle of summer and over 100 deg that day. She went 9lb 7oz. My partner had an 8 (I don't remember the exact weight of his fish) that day also. Its unfortunate we didn't weigh all of our fish because our combine limit was well over 30lbs. All of the fish we caught were in 5ft of water or less and buried in the cover. Quote
Red Bear Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 After 9 o'clock in the summer you wont find a good angler flipping shallow cover! i dont totally agree with this either. On hot summer days at smith mountain lake i catch largemouths off this small tree thats fallen over, several feet away next to my uncles dock in about 1-3 feet of water. the first couple years i didnt notice the tree holding fish, but ive caught several 2-3 lbers off it this year alone. also in about 2-5 feet of water there are a couple grass patches a bit further out than the tree i catch bass off in the middle of the day. its kinda funny though because i could never catch a bass using artificial off this dock for like 2 summers until this year. and when i can see these fish swimming around the dock but cant get them to bite i use the Fish Chris method and nose hook a live night crawler, toss it out and the bass cant seem to resist it. the bass come in shallow to ambush the small bluegills in the lake there... brushhoggin Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 my best, most productive lure in the past couple weeks with the temps coolin off and drawing shad up into the shallows again has been a white 3/8 oz swim jig with a watermelon critter craw worm. Nothing special or erratic on the retrieve, just chunk and wind. great for high pressure lakes Quote
