Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 I turn 29 in under a month, so 29 years. Primarily saltwater. Never fished freshwater as a kid. Got into bass fishing about eight years ago. Never looked back. Quote

MattinOK Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Thirteen months-- that seems like a loooong time ago. Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 When I was about 6 years old, my Dad gave me a cane pole, little hooks, and some bread dough and said" "catch some brim." After I caught a brim, he said: "give me that brim and I'll show you how to catch a bass..." I'm 57 right now so that was 51 years ago - however, I had some LONG hiatus' from fishing during all that time. I'm trying to make up for lost time now! ;D Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Since the world was dirt. What about Long Mike then? I heard he predates dirt... Quote
bass or bass ? Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My Grandmother taught me to fish when I was 13 from the bridge over Cypress Creek right next to their house in Ft.Lauderdale Florida in 1964. Been fishing ever since. Quote
bear7625 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I started fishing when 10lb mono looked like weed-wacker cord. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 About 60 years for me. Started in freshwater as kid fishing local areas with my dad, had a cottage so we fished everyday in the summer. We also hit Canada a lot as lived 20 minutes away. Many fly in trips to different parts of Canada, the Algoma region was my favorite, made 3 trips there with canoe and living under the stars. Became a snowbird in 1980 fishing saltwater in winter and freshwater in summer in Michigan. Now it's 90% saltwater, freshwater limited to a couple months of the year, full time Florida resident last 6 years. Many saltwater charter and guides in various Mexican and Caribbean locations, ain't nothing like catching " El Toro" on light tackle, I fish nearly everyday. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 I can remember my Great Grandfather,my Grandfather and my Father all taking me to local waters, Mostly fresh waters, to go fishing for anything that would bite. My Grandfather and my Father purchased my first fishing rod and reel when I was 4, It was a Berkley cherry rod and Daiwa spinning reel, Which I still have today, That was 44 years ago, Unfortunately I never had the chance to use it fishing with my Great Grandfather but it does remind me of those days. Quote
tholmes Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I started fishing at about 6 yrs. old when my grandfather took me out and taught me to catch bream and bullheads with a cane pole. That was 52 years ago. He taught me bass fishing a couple of years later and gave me an old Shakespeare level wind reel mounted on a tubular steel rod. I went through a couple of long dry spells, but I'm back to fishing regularly now. Tom Quote
farmpond1 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Probably 42 years. When I was very young my dad would take me and my siblings to a paylake. After he died, a few years later, I was pretty much on my own so I fished from a bridge for bullheads. I didn't even use a pole. Just swung a spool of line with a garden worm baited hook and sinker into the deep holes and pulled the bullheads up. When I got my drivers license opportunities increased considerably. Still, it took a long time to really build up steam. Quote
whittler Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My grandfather and father were fishermen and since I can remember I was with one of them. Have been seriously fishing for bass since I was 15 and that was 55 years ago, still love it. Quote
Teaburner Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My grandfather started taking me out flounder fishing with minnows when i was around 3 years old. We did that every summer until he passed on when I was 11. I then gave up fishing until this summer when I decided to give bass fishing a try. I thoroughly enjoy it, even though I have only caught 3 fish so far. I really wish I had stuck with it after my grandfather passed. I am finding fishing to be almost therapeutic. So I guess I have been fishing for about 8 years and a couple of months, with one hell of a sabbatical! Quote
Nebraska Bassin Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I've probably been fishing off and on for about 20 years now, and I'm 25. This is the first season in which I've really taken fishing seriously though. Quote
Boogey Man Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I've fished since I was six, fising ponds and wading creeks. My earliest memory of fishing was when I was about 6 and my grandparents took me to their pond. My grandfather was on one side and my grandmother was on the other. Everytime one of their bobbers would go under they would hollar at me and run me from one side to the other. I started "bass fishing" in '93. So fishing in general, 34 years, bass fishing, 17 years. ChiCityBasser Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I remember my dad taking me and my brothers fishing once in awhile when I was younger but then as I got older and got into sports fishing went by the wayside. Then getting into our late 30's early 40's my brothers started fishing again and I used to laugh at them bout doing it and getting up so early. One trip out of town I decided to join them after picking up a cheap rod and reel at target and I was hooked...lol. It was so peaceful early in the mornings on the dock just of fishing and talking amongst one another. Now its a hobby I truly enjoy. I went from the cheaper Walmart, Target rod n reel setups to Bass Pro and Cabelas setups and getting the best I could afford. My brothers once said I made the biggest step up in equipment from one year to the next by swapping out all the cheaper gear. The bait monkey is alive and well at my house and Cabelas is like going to the grocery store for me...lol. Like the Bass Pro commercial says "Do you plan your days off around weather patterns?" Yes I do and love it. Greatest Hobby in the World Quote
bear7625 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 When I checked the box "all my life", It didn't really hit home untill today. It's been 60 years! Fishing has always been a part of my life, and I guess I've just taken it for granted. My 3 sons are grown and fishing is a big part of their lives. Wow, I just can't remember when fishing wasn't there. Quote
Skunked in DR Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 All my life. There are pictures of me fishing with my Dad at 2 or 3. I did take a long break from about 15-30 where I barely fished. Been back at it seriously for about 7 years. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Around 35 years or so. Started when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Took some time off around the time I got married and then started back up about 8 years ago. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 54 yrs. I feel sooooooooo old. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 hmmmmmm...as I remember, my brother took me fishing when I was eight, and the first fish I ever caught was promptly purloined by a stegosaurus! Quote
