XbassmasterX Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 two part question What kind of Jigs do you guys use? and what set up do you use to throw em on? always heard shorter rods are better for jigs but i never got to try it is that true? Jig and Pig can realy get some monsters 8-) Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 1, 2009 Super User Posted April 1, 2009 I don't mean to sound cheeky, but I literally have over 40 different baits that qualify as "jigs." From tiny 3/32 oz. flick-shakes all the way up to 1-1/2 oz. footballs. I would throw them on at least four different rigs, from light finess spinning gear, on up to XH broomstick. Is there a specific type of jig your asking about? Or perhaps a specific type of cover that you'd like to fish them? Quote
skeeterman24 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I use these www.intruderjigs.com They are really durable and I use them in every type of cover/situation The only time I have a jig on a shorter rod is when i'm skipping under docks or trees when i'm in tight quarters. I always have 2 diawa green sticks, 7'11" Heavy flipping stick rigged up with 17lb mono or 50lb braid at all times, except early spring. Other than that use casting rods like you would for your plastic baits. Quote
XbassmasterX Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 hmm good question forgot how broard topic was well I throw 1/2 or 3/4oz football jigs in 15'+ waters but norm on the lower end for weight or i will throw lighter jigs into rocky areas so i guess what would you be throwing into rock bottoms Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 2 of my jig set ups are a Loomis BCR853 and a BCR855 right now. I'm readding a BCR854 any day now again once it comes in. Jigs. I roll my own. 8-) Rocky bottoms a football head works pretty dang good. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I use GMAN (member here) jigs. They're top notch. I use a mh or h rod for most my jigging. Personally I think the numbers go down when using a jig but the quality of the fish is what makes a jig so good!!! Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted April 2, 2009 Super User Posted April 2, 2009 so i guess what would you be throwing into rock bottoms Since you have narrowed it down to rock bottoms I use 3/4 oz football heads because they are big enough to not hang much or light weight banana heads. Since buying the poison tail molds, I am going to give shallow rock piles a try with the pt 1/8 oz jigs a few times. My rod choices are Gloomis and Fenwick HMGs in 6'6"-7' MH-H. Like GMAN I roll my own. Quote
ChazfromVA Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 i like tru-tungsten jigs as well as All terrain tackle's football jig.. very good in my opinion Quote
XbassmasterX Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 alright sounds good time to do some shoppin Quote
bigfruits Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 if youre just starting off id recommend bitsy bug jigs. maybe 1/4 green craw color with a small matching craw trailer (netbait paca craw, yum craw papi 3") these jigs catch alot of fish of all sizes and are very cheap. Quote
XbassmasterX Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 oh I have been using jigs for quite a long time they were just not my go to bait and now that I am not just limited to shore fishing I wanted to find good jigs that i can rely on Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted April 5, 2009 Super User Posted April 5, 2009 You can rely on GMAN's jigs. His "widegap jig" is a excellent all around jig and has become my favorite. Quote
