rboat Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Put on some Motorhead and blast it as loud as you can. Any fish within a mile will be so pumped up, they'll hit anything you throw! I always thought big bass were part of the KISS army. KISS forever rock on! When fishin nature plays the best music Quote
moundhill Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I like listenin to the great outdoors. Unless im catfishin then some tunes are usually involved Quote
Jake P Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I try and focus on the feel of the rod and my line so any noise other than subtle noises are disrupting for me. I will listen to music while catfishing though. Even then i dont like it loud and heavy, and i can listen to metallica and pantera all day long. Just not while fishing. Some country is good.....and Miller High Life. Quote
endless Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 nature mostly, I just got an I-Pod so I might use it on occasion. Though it is nice to know when you are hearing Gators roaring and get to see one heck of a fight between two bull-gators. (Giving them plenty of distance) Now if I had to deal with Gators or other dangerous animals of that sort than maybe no music for me. I bet that would be sight to see, them fighting! Quote
bass or bass ? Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I spend my time about 50/50, but no headphones and the volume is kept just loud enough to hear when on. Quote
Red Bear Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 i love music when fishing, especially if the bite is slow. and if im nightfishing off a dock, music is a must. ive seen times where a change of station turned the bite off, a change back to the previous station and bite back on... Quote
Vinny Chase Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 This may have already been touched on but Bill Dance did an episode where he answered this same question. The answer was that the water blocks 99% of all noise above the water. I personally love to put on some country. Country and nature go hand in hand Quote
Missouribassman95 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I don't think I could focus very well if I was listening to music. Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Haha i only jam on the way to where we're going. If you had it playing on a stereo, the sounds would go through the boat most likely if the stereo was set on the boat or built into the boat, and that would probably have some negative effect on close fish. But an ipod would be fine. And sounds can hardly pierce through the surface of the water. Its almost like a shield. So if you're yelling and there's a bass swimming, it most likely won't do anything to it. But if u fall or make loud clumsy steps on a boat and stuff, it gets transmitted through the boat and through the water Quote
trevor Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Big bass like Metalica No, big bass like the Ramones. > Quote
Teaburner Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I'm a newbie to fishing, but know quite alot about sound, and imo on a boat you will be ok as long as you keep the bass turned down. If you installed big subwoofers it would probably be an issue, since the low frequencies would pass through the boat to the water. I have heard it said you should step lightly not to spook fish, both on a boat and shore, so it's basically the same concept. and everyone knows the big bass prefer the blues! ;D Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I usually don't listen to music so I can hear any activity going on around me, but if I do, I have 1 ear bud in. That way I can at least still hear from 1 side Quote
bassin is addicting Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 no music for me... just nature. and i love it that way. i can't stand when someone pulls up as close to the bank as they can get, rolls windows down and blares radio while fishin' that i can hear 50 yards away. but i don't say anything....thats their choice. Quote
chromedog Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I like to have at least one ear bud in. For some reason it helps me to stay slow when I am fishing. I tend to fish fast and the music helps to calm me. Quote
D.R.BassSeeker Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I'd rather be able to hear a bass plopping in the water near me than to listen to music. I also like hearing the birds and other wildlife all around me when the boat noise allows. Quote
urp Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 My boat is 23 yrs old and the tape deck has long ceased its function. When it worked I would at times use it and it never seemed to affect the bite. As befits an oldster I listened to country from the 50s, 60s and 70s: what we termed sh*tkickin. Quote

BrianSnat Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I always have my iPod and mini speaker along when I'm fishing. During the day and early evening I'll usually be playing music. The type depends on my mood. I listen to basically everything but death metal and modern country. One dusk descends and the lake surface gets glass-like, I usually turn the music way down or totally off. I want to be able to hear if something strikes my popper or jitterbug and I also enjoy the quiet of the lake and sounds of nature at that time. Quote
