rboat Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 The last time out I saw a couple of boats. The first angler had an Ipod he was listening to and the next guy had a stereo playing while he was fishing. Personally, I like to listen to nature when I fish. The birds, fish surfacing, crickets, etc. Am I missing something? How many of you guys jam to your tunes while fishin? Just curious, Does the sound of a stereo attract or repel fish? Any thoughts? Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 What can be more replent to fish than a boat passing over their heads ? however when you troll that 's exactly what happens, you pass over their heads and a few seconds later passes your lure and you catch them. Fishing is full of theories, old woman 's tales, assumptions and such, I 've fished for the better part of my life and all I can tell is this: there are days that the commotion created by a particle of dust falling on the water surface sends them fleeing away at warp speed into the densest cover just not to be seen again and there are days that the commotion created by a whale landing on the water surface doesn 't bother them at all; you never know what the heck is going own in their heads, Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 i don't mind fishing with a stereo playing at a decent volume but i wouldn't like fishing with headphones in. Quote

If by nature you mean the engines of 30' cigarette boats and water ski boats with there crap blaring then no, I'd rather listen to my own music. My stereo only gets one station where I primarily fish and they repeat music all day long. My son complains about the music on my Ipod. I can't win :'( Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 10, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 10, 2010 I like both, but not listening to music with headphones on. We were rocking out to Van Halen once and a 4-pounder came out from under a dock and swam up underneath the boat. ;D Quote
endless Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I do the headphones but mine are the ear phones and I only use one to keep my other ear open to outside noise. I also always try to keep a keen eye out on my surroundings. My tri-haul when I had that running I use to listen to music through a stereo while croaker or catfishing. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 I quite often have a stereo playing, no earphones or headphones just the speakers Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 I personally don't want any distractions. This is most noticeable as a distractability problem, when deer hunting. Dunno know about you all, but it takes me some time to settle down and just connect my senses to the subtlties (sp??). After a week of sitting in traffic, too many hooomans, and music, it can be hard to drain the adrenaline from my system. When fishing I want to hear nothing but birds, bullfrogs, dragonflies, and bass surging on bluegills. I even set the ring-tone on my cell phone to a red-wing blackbird recording in the spring, and a yellow warbler in the summer. True! Then I leave the phone in the car! Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted July 11, 2010 Super User Posted July 11, 2010 I'm with Paul on this. I love music, but when I'm fishing I want to hear the sounds of nature. I don't fish too many lakes that are used by 30 footers, and when I do it is when they are not in use, for the most part. I would rather hear 1000 horsepower at WOT than most of what's played on the radio anyway. ;D Quote
Nibbles Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I only break out the mp3 player if I'm fishing for carp, catfish or walleye. I can get away with it because I usually just put some bait on the hooks, cast about 50 yds off the shore where I'm sitting, and sit back anyway. With bass, the fishing is a little more active - constantly changing lures, making my bait jiggle and swim, etc. so I don't listen to music when doing that because presenting the bait is entertainment enough for me. I.rar Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 i absolutely love music, but not when im fishing. i dont even like to be slightly intoxicated when i fish because i feel like im easily distracted or that my crank bait will come crashing into my face when i set the hook on nothing. now, if im out with someone else and the day is dull, then ill turn something on. i also fish from shore though , so my music comes from my cellphone. im sure if i had a boat with a sweet stereo , i would fish to music more. Pikesnogle Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I like to hear what's going on around me while I am fishing. Be it a fish breaking the surface or a bear charging at me... ;D Quote
Beastie Bass Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Baby got back always brings in some whoppers for me! Downtown, anyway! LOL NO, I do NOT enjoy any other sound except music my jitterbug or buzzbait makes! I need to hear the braid zinging thru my guides and truly enjoy all the natural sounds of fishing. I despise racket when I'm in a boat, but crank that stuff up on the way home! Anyone else beleive that silence is key when bassin' after sundown? Quote

I think the way sound and feel are intensified at night is maybe the best part of night fishing. A big bass breaking the surface or the slightest tap on a plastic is what keeps me coming back. 8-) Quote
kms399 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 when I fish in the local lakes where the "nature sounds are water skiers, jet skiers and highway traffic then I play the stereo when I am up north on a more quiet lake then no tunes. Quote
NBR Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Never had a beer while fishing some coffee and lots of water. Several when the fishing is over. Love the quiet when fishing probably why I like to fish at boat-in camps in Canada. Not much human noise. A guest could bring a music source to fish with me but he would have to be a super super fisherman and great guy to get another invitation . Quote
Redtail Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I just put Sirius radio in the boat - love to listen to music and I think the fish aren't bothered by it. When the bite is slow and it's a long day, it's nice to have some good music or listen to some blue collar comics. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 If on a vacation fishing trip, almost always music: sometimes the fish want to party too! On a typical day, do not really want to hear much else but fishing/nature sounds. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I never bring music on the boat, but maybe 2 months ago I was out early on a saturday, and around 9am a dj started playing music outside of the clubhouse (they were having some kind of fundraiser) and it was pretty cool. But my lake (and town) is super quiet, and I like to just enjoy that peace and quiet. My area of new jersey is completely different than the rest of the state in terms of amount of people, traffic, and general noise. So it's nice to just kick back and enjoy the quiet. I'm getting spoiled here, I can't stand driving around in North Jersey with all the traffic... anytime I have to go somewhere, especially on the weekends, I find myself getting pretty cranky until I start heading up the mountain lol Quote
Super User CWB Posted July 12, 2010 Super User Posted July 12, 2010 Put on some Motorhead and blast it as loud as you can. Any fish within a mile will be so pumped up, they'll hit anything you throw! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 12, 2010 Super User Posted July 12, 2010 Music = focus distraction. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 12, 2010 Super User Posted July 12, 2010 Southern bass are attracted to loud Country Music, beer and smokes! Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 nature mostly, I just got an I-Pod so I might use it on occasion. Though it is nice to know when you are hearing Gators roaring and get to see one heck of a fight between two bull-gators. (Giving them plenty of distance) Quote
