bassmanET Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Was out fishin @ 5:30 am. There was a lot of bait fish on the surface & bass chasing them. I tried a shallow running crank bait in baby bass & a white buzz bait but, no takers. As the sun came up I was able to see that the bait fish were small schools of baby bass. What else could or should I have tried? :-? Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted August 10, 2010 Super User Posted August 10, 2010 This could be just me, but I prefer some brand of popper, a Lucky Craft G-Splash or a Rapala Skitter Pop to a buzz bait, primarily because I've got greater control of the whole range of speeds. I can make a popper quiver in place if I want to and I can't make a buzz bait do that. I know a couple of very good semi-pro tournament fishermen (who primarily fish on Truman Lake), these guys prefer a Mann's Minus 1 (the big one) to a buzz bait all the time. So there are a couple of other options Quote
brushhoggin Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 don't forget there are days when they are obviously feeding but won't take an artificial lure. i don't know what it is and believe me i've thrown literally everything on those days including the kitchen sink with jack squat to show for it. Super User Jigfishn10 Posted August 10, 2010 Super User Posted August 10, 2010 If the conditions are right, I like dog walking baits over buzzbaits. For some reason the buzzbait bite has been nonexistent for me the last couple of years, so dog walkers has really produced for me. If there's a little surface disturbance, then a spinnerbait just below the surface is my next choice. Quote

Fish a few fair size tournaments and you will quickly learn that someone somewhere is catching them. Quote
