CAdeltaLipRipper Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Around here Freshwater vs Saltwater is like democrats vs Conservatives. There are very few like my self that have a passion for both. I have to defend myself all the time against my Saltwater buddies who have no appreciation of Bass fishing. I feel Bass fishing is way more rewarding due to the time and understanding of what it takes to catch Bass and the different presentations for different times of the year and even day. While you cant beat the fight of a Redfish its just not much of a rewarding feeling when you catch one. I can go out with one rod and one lure and catch all the redfish and trout I want. That's just not as much fun to me. I think most of the Bass bashers are just too lazy to put in the time to understand Bass Fishing, they want to hold a rod in one hand with a cork and a beer in the other which don't get me wrong I enjoy that from time to time also but if I had to choose between the two it would be Bass any day of the week. I am pretty much in he minority in my parts as i am located in Saltwater paradise. To each his own though, I guess it depends on your personality, I rather Sit in a Deer stand all winter and kill a couple Deer vs Blast dozens of ducks. It's all about the challenge to me. I had to join a Bass club just so I could make some new friends that appreciate this great sport. Diddo son well said well said ;D Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Bass fishing is like playing baseballFootball, more precise and harder to catch Saltwater is more like SoftballUFC Cage fighting, I've watched the shows on WFNUFC. Its tough pullin those monsters in but it just seems not that difficult otherwise. ie livebait..also an ocean FULL of species vs freshwater where they're all cramped in 10% of the lake or pond and you gotta find them. Just my 2 cents comparison Fixed it for ya ;D Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 29, 2010 Super User Posted July 29, 2010 Oh and so do stripers. Hardest fighting fish pound for pound out there See my avatar. Thats the hardest fighting pound for pound fish swimming. I've caught a ridiculous amount of different species of fish. There is nothing that fights as hard as a Peacock does for it's size. I've heard Smallies are close. I intend to find out about that one of these days. Quote

Just my 2 cents comparison The biggest lakes in the world are spit in a bucket when you compare it to the ocean. If you think it's not difficult to find what you're looking for in saltwater, you're grossly mistaken. If you think the oceans are full of fish, unfortunately you'd be wrong. In my relatively short life, I've seen saltwater fisheries get totally decimated by overfishing. The Bahamas recently RADICALLY changed the fishing laws as far as tourists are concerned in an effort to try and save whats left of the fishery. Quote

But not nearly half as many saltwater game fish. Quote

Ive had a 1 pounder take little strips of drag off of one of my baitcasters.Theyre the strongest fish that swims Quote

As far as challenge goes and Bass'n would agree, fishing inshore from the beach can be quite challenging, you are not assured you will even get a strike after hours of casting, but I do like the reward when I score. As in any type of fishing, one must be aware of the nuances of your target species and how to " hunt" fish. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 31, 2010 Super User Posted July 31, 2010 I probably should have specified freshwater. But this being primarily a freshwater forum, I guess I thought that would be obvious. If we're going to throw saltwater fish into the mix, there is absolutely nothing in freshwater that can compare with most of the Pelgagics. Hell, I don't think theres anything in freshwater that can compare to many of the inshore species as far as the power of the fight goes. By the way, Bassn; Bonita are sissies. Quote
piscicidal Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I prefer bass fishing over saltwater also. My rig (Hewes Bayfisher) is setup to do both, but I find myself bass fishing 90% of the time. I just love all the different techniques and subtleties associated with bass fishing. I go to Flamingo (saltwater), I'll catch fish until my arms hurt and I'll use two rods all day long. I go bass fishing at Loxahatchee or Okeechobee and I'll bring eight rods, use every one, and kick myself for not bringing two more! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 2, 2010 Super User Posted August 2, 2010 I'm sure you have respect for the fish now?? Have you ever noticed that river bass are stronger than the bass in ponds and lakes? Smallies fight the best but the bigger pickerel are awesome fighters. I'm sure the northern pike and muskies have the fresh water fight sewed up. Don't sell the bluefish short.... ;D My older brother could press a 175lb barbell set with one arm. He did cement work all the time when he was younger. He was on a party boat once and had two 10lb blue fish on a spreader setup. He sat down for a few minutes after that. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted August 2, 2010 Super User Posted August 2, 2010 "Pound for pound" a white perch can sometimes make a striper feel like a walleye...They just don't grow to be very many pounds! 8-) Quote
1inStripes Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Didymo fights like a beast to be a single cell algae. Quote
