guilford Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Yesterday while fishing with my son. We were fishing the rocks that make up dam. Then to our right a pontoon boat was coming down towards us. He was so shallow up against the shore where we just fished and when he got up to us he crashes his pontoon into the catails we are fishing. Then he starts going down the shoreline hugging the rocks all the way. I never had that happen to me before and what can you really do? Has anyone else had run ins with idiots like this? Quote

Senkoman12 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 a few weeks ago a couple of $#*% came within 20 yards of our boat while we were fishing with a jet ski, i flipped him off and my friends dad tried to hit him with a 1/2oz weight and his texas rig and alomst did, he just looked at us with a face like "what did i do" look on, god what a bunch of jerks people are and they have no consideration for fisherman or other boaters Quote
guilford Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 Ok I will do that. This lake is a state park so I will inform the rangers. This idiot will more than likely do it again. There are houses on the lake and next time I will follow and see where he docks. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I don't usually get mad over things like this, but here's my story (not really anti fishing but it REALLY had me mad): I was going to fish my favorite spot just below some bridge pilings. As I go to start walking away from the Jeep another Jeep pulls in and 3 kids and a dad pile out and RUN (literally run) to get to that spot before I did. No big deal I thought, the rivers big enough for all of us (plus it was kids, so I usually let kids fish before I will). So I fish the other side of the bridge. About 5 minutes after I start fishing, the rest of this guys 'group' comes down. It consisted of 3 adults and 1 little baby (probably only 4 or 5 months old). The two adults proceed to take the baby out on a little flotation device and pull her around (the river was very high, muddy and quick from the area flooding). If that guy would have let go of that float, that baby would have been GONE. But anyway, they were pulling here RIGHT in front of where I was fishing. A minor annoyance, so I move up about 15 yards to a grassy spot I like to fish... Well, the 3rd adult that was with that group decides that looks like a great place to sit her chair... She literally put her chair RIGHT in front of me, half in the water! I asked her if she could please move down just a little so I could fish this area and she said "the river is plenty long, go fish somewhere else!" I had enough at that point and just left. What kind of example are these adults setting for these kids? Quote
basser223 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 i was going across the lake in my canoe so I was paddeling hard a couple of jet ski's came up real close and circled me and I almost flipped. no consideration Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 14, 2010 Super User Posted July 14, 2010 Use common sense when dealing with anyone who is upset with your fishing or just upset for whatever reason. Boats have numbers; write the information down, take photo's and talk to the local authority. I remember several confrontations on the water and it's best to let the law deal with the problem. Remember the BASS 2002 and 2003 Classics; Jay Yelas was nearly ran over by a pontoon boat running the bank during the 2002 event and Gary Klein was shot at by some idiot land owner during the 2003 Classic. Super User Goose52 Posted July 14, 2010 Super User Posted July 14, 2010 Pontoon boats are my nemesis. It happened again just today - a pontoon boat at idle speed sees me fishing on the dam and firewalls the throttle and runs by me at full speed. I pull out my ancient 1mp digital camera and get a shot of him as he goes by. As soon as he thinks he's being filmed/photographed (as well as my shouting), he slows down. It happens all the time - quite a few of the pontoon boat operators on the private lakes that I fish are obviously anti-angler - or just immature jerks that think it's funny to spoil your fishing. Some are residents - some are visitors that are renting the boats at the marinas. When I'm in my canoe, I have the pontoon boats go by at a good clip and don't understand why I don't wave when I'm wondering what their wake is going to do to me. Or, another time, I'm anchored about 75-100 ft off the bank when a pontoon boat goes between me and the bank....leaving a good wake - I'm anchored so I can't turn into the wake. These are all private, no-wake lakes that I fish, and unfortunately, there is no enforcement agency to contact on these issues. I am planning on getting a better (higher mega-pixel) camera to take with me so I can at least get their lake "sticker" numbers and report them to the office that issues the lake stickers - not sure what that will do however. Good thing I have outriggers on my canoe or I may have been capsized by now :-/ Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted July 14, 2010 Super User Posted July 14, 2010 Being a dummy isn't against the law. If it were, there would be more in jail than on the street. What should be the penalty? Shock Therapy everyday for a month? A thousand paper cuts and have them take a bath in alcohol? Or have their boat taken away from them until they learn to play nice. > Honestly there are not enough jail cells to go around for these kind of people although I happen to like the idea. Quote
Red Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I fish a small buster boat. Lake Waco is pretty big for my small boat so I mainly fish the small "backwater" coves and such nearby the marinas and stuff. All the places I fish are no wake zones. It drives me nuts when some idiot goes blastin through full throttle sending a huge wake my way. Couple weeks ago this guy on a jet ski was way back up in past the marina, like maybe 100 feet wide cove. I and another boat were fishing. This guy was doiing tight circles and goin crazy in there. Finally this very large houseboat(large man not large houseboat ;D) owner started screaming at him calling him everything in the book! It was great! He left after that. I mean d**n, you got the whole big lake, wahy ride in a tiny little cove! In my neck of the waters here though there are only a hand full of dedicated people for the whole state and the state will not do anything about it because of the cut backs in funding and I think a lot of people know this and push the limits. There seems to be plenty of good men and women on the shores but very few that can actually patrol the waters. Quote
