BassFishingMachine Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Hey, I just wanted to get an idea on some good colors for buzzbaits. (I know the water clarity matters too, but I'm just trying to get a basic idea) What color buzzbait would you use in: 1. Sunny Conditions? 2. Dusk? 3. Night? 4. Overcast? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 white dark dark dark Fill in the shade of color you want. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 what I use is 90% of the time white, at night, probably black (tho I don't really fish at night) and on occasion, chartruese. I don't really use any other color than those two Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 3/8 oz Cavitron, Black on Black 8-) Quote
hjerk24 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Get a Walmart Chartreuse and Red Bleeder Bait Hook...cheap, and far out catches Cavitron......for ME. Can get 2 for the price of 1. You can argue, but personally have not caught half as many on a Cavitron. Just a confidence bait here for me. They have em' at all Walmarts, and fishem' right out of the pack. Don't Cavitron Hate...just an opinion. The Buzz bait is the Big picture, and the upper Left buzz bait. The bass in my Avitar was caught about 25 yards off the Ticonderoga Ramp on a fogged in morning...on a Walmart Chartreuse Bleeder....smacked it...and the rest is.....Picture History!!!! 1/4 OZ Quote
paangler13 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 black! I didn't even know they made em in other colors jim Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 Black or white are my favorite, but I also use chartreuse sometimes. Quote
basser89 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 The majority of the time I fish a buzzbait during the day, I'm throwing white. On extremely overcast days, I'll have a black one on (at least at some point I will). At night, 90% of the time, I'm throwing black. I have had a small handfull of outings at night where the bass would not even think about hitting a black buzzbait but as soon as I switched up to white, well game on! Those 2 colors make up the majority of my buzzbait time. On rare occassions, I'll throw a chartruese buzzbait. I'll opt for that color during the day under stained to muddy water situations. Quote

Love em.. Wish they had em in a lil bigger size cause the ones i got that they had were kinda small.. Fish liked em tho. I use white and/or chartuese. 8-) Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 I'll join the crowd to say black most of the time.White sometimes, especially when the fish are bustin shad, and occasionally chart/white in dirty water. Haven't found a good reason yet to get too elaborate on skirt colors. Quote
T-Bone Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Black on black most of the time, but sometimes I will go with white skirt gold blade when it is sunny. Quote
VolFan Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I'm going off the reservation here but, in farm ponds and/or with smaller buzzbaits, a bluegill or gold colored skirt works ridiculously well. It's held true on lakes in TN, CO, and on th Potomac and some small ponds in VA. But really, if you just get black and white, you're going to have fun. DON'T OVERTHINK IT! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK The more squeak in the blades the better. Quote
greg516 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Just one very stupid question... Why black? Quote
Under the Radar Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Just one very stupid question... Why black? Simple answer " They work" Actually the Black Profile is easier for the fish to see outlined against the sky. Assuming the the buzz baits are usually fished in low light conditions. Good luck Quote
sammy1 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 for me buzzbaits are simple, white with blue or white and chartruese. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 Just in case nobody has mentioned it - BLACK! ;D Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 Strange no one mentioned blade color or configuration which is my #1 choice over skirt color Quote
flipinstick88 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Black for lowlight, white if its bright and skirtless for clear water. Quote
river-rat Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I have to agree with Catt. I'm more concerned with blade color and noise than the skirt color. I use a black blade in low light or overcast conditions, a gold blade in bright conditions, and an anodized green blade when fishing in water with a greenish tint. Quote
OIFBasser Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 early morning - white daytime - white overcast - black night- black not sure - black Quote
mrlitetackle Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Ive never been choosy about skirt color, regardless of conditions.... I must say my most proficient for buzz and spinners is chart/red and white. I have many black skirts but rarely used them, the others always work quite fine. Quote
aarogb Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 My most productive color choices are: 1. Lunker Lure 1/4 oz. Black 2. Lunker Lure 1/4 oz. White 3. Lunker Lure 1/4 oz. Chartreuse (In that order) Quote
