Fish Behavior

I stopped at cabelas last night to pick up some things for the bait monkey(didn't know who i kept buying all this stuff for until i came to these forums..), and i was watching the fish in the aquarium for a while.  Now i know that bass like cover.  it can be anything from lilly pads to a small stick floating in the water.  But, as i was watching the bass.. i couldn't believe how tucked into cover they actually were.  Some of them looked like they got wedged into the cover they were so deep.  so.. it got me wondering,  how many great spots on the water have i been ignoring?  what i saw in that aquarium has definately opened my mind to different approaches.  my main concern is though..  are they only acting this way because they're in an aquarium?

Fish become acclimated to being in an aquarium between a few minutes to 48 hours depending on the species. Once they have become acclimated to their new home they resume their natural behavior.

May I suggest the following?

1.  Purchase Bigmouth, Bigmouth Forever and Feeding Habits of Bass and watch them. You will learn a lot about bass habits and traits.

2.  Bass in Heavy Cover with Homer Circle, Al Linder and Roland Martin is another great video you will enjoy and learn a lot.

Regarding your query, the answer is "yes, bass will go deep into cover."

In fact, some old ladies will hide in cover if they hear a trolling motor. 

This is why we fish "weedless" or take our chances when throwing into brush and wood and into the grass and pads.

this made me think of mike iaconelli's "ripping" technique where you throw a crankbait into reeds and just rip it out violently(i would look up the technique before actually using it, not sure if that is exactly how it works).. I remember hearing that and not being able to understand how you're even going to catch fish in really thick reeds.  anyways.. i'm off to read that pm

Also, I was at BPS and noticed the same thing too. In Clarksville, IN they have a makeshift streming running through the store. The bass were huddled against, under, behind anything possible: along side rocks waiting for something to swim by, under a man-made beaver dam, the bridges. It really put things into prespective.

On another note, I thought it would be hailarious to get a pole and drop a line into the stream. Just imagine walking through BPS and someone sitting there trying to catch the bass in the tank or the stream, lol.
