The Bassinator Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Today was cloudy and I decided to fish the upper section of my lake which is a shallow flat ranging from 2-5 ft deep with submerged vegetation. I was was having good success on a silver floating rapala with the black back but I was catching too many pickerel. Besides a spinnerbait, a fluke or a crankbait what other kinds of search lures would work well? Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Swimbait on a scrounger head. Rattlin Vibe Quote
texlwedge Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 On an area like that I might toss a C-rig w/ a 1/4 oz weight, short leader, about 16". That combined with a good lizard, or creature should land you some fish. Buzz or frog early morning. Quote
JLBomber Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 stay with the rapala - but maybe go to a suspending. alternate retrieves. Quote
Stasher1 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Weightless bubblegum TrickWorm. Cast it out and let it sink 1'-1.5', twitch it back to the surface and let it sink again. Repeat all the back to the boat. Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I like to throw a floating model crankbait on flats. Get one that dives to just about how deep that flat is, smack it off the bottom a few times and let it float to the top. Just keep repeating that and you should get a strike. For softbaits, you can't go wrong with the C or T rig! That's been mentioned though so I won't go over it again Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted June 23, 2010 Super User Posted June 23, 2010 Double zulu rig, buzz bait, frog early in the morning, c-rig, t-rig, spinner bait, shallow crank in the afternoon Quote
Super User bigbill Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 First the bass are deeper when the pickerel are around. If the pickerel bite slows down go to a larger size bait. I switched from a mepps #3 to a mepps #5 and nailed a 29" pickerel it came in to see what the little guys were eating. Never be afraid to up size or change color when the bite falls off. For bass you need to get into the weeds with a carolina rigged worm. I like to use a wacky rigged senko and just let it fall. The bass are in the cover. Quote
hookset on 3 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Try an Outkast Swimjig. vary the retrieve until the bass tell you what they hit. Quote
