Mr.Sheephead Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I recently started fishing these multiple connected ponds and have landed some small but fat bass. Bass that are 10-14 inches weighing 1-2 almost 3 pounds already! Here in MN this whole past week has been gloomy and wet so fishing is tough and i have only landed 4-6 bass at these ponds fishing thursday friday saturday and today, sunday. All those days i was out 2-3 hours throwing topwater frog, wacky rig and a T-rig beaver. All the fish were landed with the wackyrig and a nibble with the beaver. I havnt tried much other things there and would like to know what i should try. Not sure how much bass is in these ponds and how big they get and the waters murky with scattered plots of weeds that are medium to pretty heavy cover with scattered plots of open water. The waters not too deep max is i think 25 feet (mndnr says 25 feet). Anyways yea what should i throw and were should i throw them? the bass were landed were the pond starts to funnle and get smaller to a storm drain or a drain that leads to the next pond or were the water just gets a bit smaller i havnt landed one from the more open water and all this is shore fishing. Super User grimlin Posted June 13, 2010 Super User Posted June 13, 2010 I'm experimenting the exact same thing you are. I'm fishing a small secret hole at work real close to the drain system and catching fat,fat 2-3 pounders in 15 minute time frame per lunch break. Believe it or not, Road runners are killers in this situation.I get more bites on this than stickbaits or any other lures right now. Quote
Bait Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Have you tried drifting a Jig-N-Pig in the current of the drain? Quote
Mr.Sheephead Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 come on anybody any other suggestions on what i should be throwing?????? Quote
garland7 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I would experiment some with a buzzbait around the weeds and brush. You may get a nice surprise. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Try a dropshot rig with finesse worm. This will allow you fish even slower than a wacky rig while keeping the bait off the mucky bottom. Just adjust the leader length as you cast further from the bank. Quote
Redhed Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I would experiment some with a buzzbait around the weeds and brush. You may get a nice surprise. or a Pop R.. Pop R's are my top water choice 90% of the time if the fish are not too aggressive. bass colored pop R's have caught me more fish than i dare to even guess. its a top 5 lure for me. Quote
