Ambidextrous?? anyone else? Good or bad?

Hey folks I went fishing with a buddy of mine and he had a lefty revo premier. I cast with my left hand and then usually switch over to reel. I realized the I could reel and feel just as good with my left hand. Actually I think my reaction is quicker on hits holding the rod with my right hand. Does this Develop any problems or am I lucky because lefty reels are usually cheaper?? I am one of those people that write left handed but catch and throw right handed. I shoot pool and eat with my left hand.

would this cause any bad habbits having right and left hand reels on the boat? By the way I reallly liked his revo premier!!

I am not ambidextrous but a friend is and he can cast either left or right handed.

Blows your mind the first time you see him do it.

He can skip a worm under a dock with either hand with the same results. 

I use a left handed spinning reel and a right handed baitcaster. I have no idea why I do this but it works for me.

I can cast with either hand, spinning, casting, or fly, but I'm better in the accuracy department with casting left handed.

I was probably supposed to be left handed, but I'm old enough that they used to try to "cure" you of using your left for writing and whatever in school, and since I could write with my right I wound up using both pretty well. Not necessarily a bad thing.

All my soft plastics, jig, and spinning reels are lefties.  Everything else is right handed.  On jigs and soft plastics I like not having to change hands in case there is that instant hit when the bait hits the water.

I do 90% left handed. Flip, pitch, and cast left handed. I eat, throw a ball, and shoot a gun right handed. That's as close as i can come to it.

I'm ONLY ambidextrous with my fishing rods. I can't do anything else with both hands. It's funny how I taught myself to do this- I went to Bass Pro Shops to get a new Baitcasting set up (its a good hour drive for me). I was like a little kid in a candy store, grabbed the rod that was on sale and left. Once I got home I realized it was Left handed. I was too excited to fish with it so I just kept it and I could fish either way ever since.

I think its good to be able to use either hand, that way, you can cast with your other hand if your dominant hand's angle can't offer you a good cast.

Ive noticed on ebay and in the flea market, as weel as other sites the used leftys are cheaper than the right hand reels.

Maybe when they are selling at full price but when they put them on closeout sale, you can bet if you're left handed you will have plenty to choose from.  Not so for us normal people

I'm left handed.  Cast, crank, and do about 90% of other things left handed, but my strong arm is my right.  Good for hooksets.  I can throw two thumbs up so I'm ambidextrous.

I can only cast with my right hand, but I can reel with either just fine. For slow presentations like fishing a jig or drop shot, etc, though, I need my dominant (right) hand on the rod to be able to work the bait/feel bites.

I only reel right handed, even on spinning reels I put the handle on the right side. But I did teach myself to cast left handed and it's been really helpful. I makes it easier to hit a target like a stump, laydown, or dock. I can cast several times with one hand as I come up to something and then switch hands and make a couple more from the other direction. A buddy I used to fish with was horrible at boat control so that's really why I learned to cast left handed. That way, no matter how he had to boat positioned I could still get a shot in somehow.

I'm nondextrous. I can't cast worth a $#%& with either hand

Oh well. Instead of making accurate casts, I look for fish with a good aim (accurate fish )

I just feel like I can set hook better in my dominant hand. So, I hold the rod with my right and retrieve with my left. I never understood why pros, cast with right hand and then always switch hands, wasting time and motion. Just cast, stop the line and start reeling.

Plus I was watching a videos from Pros stating that it would be beneficial to learn how to flip and pitch with your left hand so that you can real in quicker and make more pitches by not switching hands, but that is with a right hand retrieve reels. Well if you hold your reel in your dominant hand anyways, which is left hand retrieve, i feel like there would be less of a learning curve... But what do I know.

I can backlash a reel with either hand, but to really get a good birdsnest I cast right-handed.

Agreed, although like Raul said, they are priced the same, at first. But the lefties have a tendency to end up in closeout sales more often than their righty counterparts, like the Revo Premiers at TW.

I wish I were ambidextrous. It would be a huge advantage.  I'm really working on casting left handed by practicing in my yard. Along with punching, it's my #1 goal to improve on this year. I can cast over the top just fine, but I would like to cast sidearm and do it quietly. I use LH and RH reels, about 50/50, and I cast right handed. But when there's an angler to my right, I have to cast over the top to avoid snagging them, instead of using the quiet little sidearm, right-handed roll-cast I'm used to. I can see that I'm spooking fish with the splashdown.

I fish ambidextrous, though I wouldn't say I'm naturally ambidextrous. Some things I just do with my left hand out of habit and others with my right.
