Super User iceintheveins Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 Does it seem that the more confidence you have in a lure, the better it works? That is what it seems to be for me even if I'm fishing the lure the same way or an equal amount of time. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 Interesting Question, I think if a lure is productive its only because you are using it in the way it was intended to be used. And if it works, Shoot I would most likely never take it off the pole. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 I try to visual success with every cast, regardless of what I'm throwing. I can "feel" the hit coming. And sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But I strive for keeping my confidence level up at all times. If you go through the effort of tying on any lure, you owe it to yourself to give it a "chance to succeed" for you. Keeping your confidence up is the only way this will happen. JMO. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 Of course it does. Quote
SuskyDude Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 When I have confidence in a lure or pattern, I "expect" a strike on every cast. The optimisim keeps me focused and I fish more effectively and catch more fish. Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 It's not just lures, it's everything. Confidence in your talent, confidence in a lake, confidence in a spot on that lake, confidence in your lure, presentation and retrieve. It all adds up. When you fish without confidence, you're not as focused as you normally would be. You get more sloppy. You don't care as much. You don't try as hard. You catch less fish. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 29, 2010 Super User Posted April 29, 2010 You have to get to know your lures, how they perform best, and what you can get out of that particular tool. It's beyond fascinating when I find someone that uses a lure to a potential I haven't realized, or can duplicate! Tells me, once again, there's way more to fishing artificials than chuck-n-wind a lot of the time. Quote
backwater4 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I think having confidence in a lure or tactic makes you fish that way or the specific lure more, which in turn gets more bites. Quote
timothy_spain Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Confidence in a lure gives you patience to work it like it's intended, which produces fish(es). That's what I believe. Quote

On the lakes I fish regularly I expect to catch fish and I'm always surprised when I don't. Even on bodies of water I don't know I am confident, based on experience that I will find fish. When the fish don't cooperate...that just part of fishing. This is not to say I don't have much to learn. There are skills I don't have so I continue to work on many of those areas. I am much better because of the knowledge gained here. There are some skills/techniques that I choose not to work on because they don't suit my style/temperament. I'm never going to be a very good crankbait fisherman for example. That may make me less than well rounded, but I can live with that. Quote

Sometimes you can be very productive with a new or different presentation of an "old" bait. Quote
