Bassin_49er Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Was fortunate enought to land a big one at Fork last week. Would like to get a great top of the line replica/mount - any recomendations? Quote
Skeet22 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 To be honest Lake Fork Taxidermy seems to be the best price. I caught an 8.4 Last Thursday and left without a replica thinking can get one cheaper somewhere but have yet to find a place any chepaer than they wanted at Lake Fork. From what I seen they do exceptional work. Quote
blkbearklr2001 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 As a taxidermist myself there are quite a few places back on the east coast. The number one guy I would recommend is Rick Krane. Anglers Artistery. If you do a google serach you will get his website. He is a master taxidermist and a judge. You will pay plenty but it will be done right. Joe Quote

J-B Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I am also looking do get a replica mount but I was wondering on what the average price of a replica mount is? Around my parts a replica is around $11-$15 an inch (length). Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 A good replica largemouth bass mount should look like the bass you caught. Like any art work, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder; how you see it . Look around and study the mounts people have displayed and ask where they had it mounted. Most good tackle shops, and some marina coffee shops or restaurants display local mounts. The picture of your bass is excellent; good color. The bass doesn't show any signs of stress; like no diamond shaped dark blotches above the lateral line. You can expect to pay about $14 per inch for a good quality replica LMB mount; $350 for a 25" bass. WRB PS; send the taxidermist a good photo of the bass, length and girth measurements to avoid the wrong shaped or colored bass. Quote

mozy Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 There is a place out of Duluth, MN called Artistic Anglers that does far and away the best replicas I've ever seen. I'm not sure on the pricing, but if I ever catch a fish that I want to mount I will be using them. To me it's worth the money to have a mount that I will be pleased with. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 17, 2010 Super User Posted April 17, 2010 Mozy is right. Very high quality. Quote
bassmajor Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I was also searching for a place to get a replica when I read this thread a couple of weeks ago. I did some checking with Lake Fork Taxidermy and decided to go with them. They actually had a finished replica mount in their shop that was the same size as my personal best (7.5 northern strain). I felt like it was a good deal so I ordered it after some email communication with them and viewing several photos of their work. I was out fishing last saturday when my wife texted me that the package had arrived. When I got home I tried not to have high expectations. Most of the replicas I have seen in my day haven't really compared to a skin mount. Well when I opened it I was totally shocked. It looks awesome! Way better than I had expected. I am really glad I went with them. If anyone is debating on getting a replica and wants to see some pics, send me a PM. I'd be glad to snap a few for ya or forward some the pics that Lake Fork sent to me. Quote
