they're legal here. can keep 2 as long as they're under 30 inches

Baron here they have a short season for them and you have to buy a tag, and size though.

One time I was fishing for catfish with a buddy of mine.  I let him use one of my rods. Well he was not watching it and a catfish pulled it straight into to river. About a hour later I was casting my pole back out and caught the reel that had gone in the water. On the Other end of it was a twenty five pound catfish.

A hissing river Snapping Turtle with a shell that was about 18" front to back. I couldn't remove the hook. It was hooked twice in the neck with a Husky Jerk. That thing was ANGRY and very scary. I was 13 or 14 and wading in knee deep water, far from any solid shoreline. It was flailing and it clawed a small hole in my waders. I cut the line and wished the turtle luck.

yeah those big turtles are nasty. saving a lure is not worth losing a finger or two. i would of cut my line pretty much right away. me and my bro-in-law were fishing off a dock one night at a lake using night crawlers and live bluegills for catfish and this one turtle kept tormenting us. we caught him like seven times on both baits. he was a good fight though, poor guy had hooks all in him by the end of the night. it was hilarious at times but got old. "i got a big one, get the net" only to pull up a turtle lol

boy, turltes like me for some reason. if im not catching anthing else, i usually end up with one of those dinosuars. got one 30 lbs last year at a local golf course pond. the funny thing was i snagged him on a crappie jig on 6 lb. test IN THE MOUTH. had to get my baitcaster with 15 lb. test and hook em in the neck to get close enough to grab a hold of his tail. i kept this one though, couldnt carry the turtle and my gear so i tied my lanyard around his tail and drug him back to the truck. should have seen the golfers faces. they asked me if i was going to eat it, i told em no, im taking him for a walk ;D

also was trot lining a local lake one night and caught a total of 9 of em in a 6 hour period. boy that was fun. we cleaned em up and served them at my local church fish fry. needless to say we had a lot of meat left over ;D

another night me and my buddy were trot lining again. it was his turn to go and check the lines. he sets out, and thirtly minutes later i see him buzzing around in the cove going after somthing. he comes back with a smirk and pulls out the landing net with somthing furry in it. somhow he caught a jack rabbit swimming across the cove trying to get to the other side. i told him to be carful next time it might be a skunk :D

Throwing a buzzbait during the tail end of sunset and a bat hit it mid-air. The bats usually chase it but I've never had one tag it until then. It crashed into the water with the buzzer, I set the hook and dragged it back flopping on the surface the whole way. Thankfully, it broke free and flew off almost at my feet. Saved me the trouble of figuring out how to unhook it!

Not as interesting as some of the others here, but fishing this past Saturday, I thought I had a bite while reeling in a shallow crank. I ended up pulling out a wad of line with a Wiggle Wart lodged in my treble hooks. It was in good condition too...another to add to my supply :)

Wierdest thing was a baby gator, hit a Pop R. I guess in the southern states it could happen, but in NY probably not so often. Someone must have had it as a pet and it got too big so they released it in the lake. I wanted to net it, my partner wouldn't let me.

That wouldn't  happen to have been in Grant would it?

I've had gators go for topwater baits. I've never actually hooked one, but they've held onto it all the way back to the boat! The farther west you go, the less gators you see, but a few lakes around here have them.

Last summer we were camping at Kerr lake, I set up one of my baitcasters with crawlers and was waiting for a cat to hit, well it got closer to bed time so my wife wanted to go to the bath house and shower. I left the line out and took off to the bath house. I came back and the rod holder had been pulled over and the rod was gone. The next day while we were all swimming my oldest was diving down to the bottom and coming up with old sticks and rocks, after about 30 mins he comes up with my rod in his hand. I get up on the shore and start to reel the line in and the catfish is still attached a nice 3 pounder.

just had this happen today (no foolin'!). got hung up in a brushpile so I gave it a hard yank to get out and here this little jig must have been in the right place at the right time. my line hit the eyelet perfectly and slid through the seam. I've lost lures through that seam but never have I gained one! haha!  ;D

wading in a river, right next to 2 really hot girls fishing (which is a rarity) I hooked and landed (from the river not off a person) some little girls bikini bottom.

So there I stand with 2 hot chic's eye screwin me while I have a doubled over rod with a pair of some kids bottoms swinging from a hook. Low point of my week for sure...... I just walked away in shame...

Bags of dog poop from people walking their dog near the edge of the water and too lazy to take the poop bag home with them.

Fishing a deacent sized pond one time for catfish. I had just strated to reel in and hooked something big. reeled it in to find out it was a trash bag full of mud. It put up a good fight though.

I have 2 wierd catches.  I was throwing a deep diver at the end of a tournament and hooked into what I thought was BB of the day. I had the net ready when all of a sudden I could see my crankbait, but that was it. It kept pulling  and tugging, and I couldn't figure it out.  Finally I brought it up and I had picked up a rattle trap off the bottom.  I pulled the line in and at the end was a broken rod and a $100 dollar reel.  It must had been dropped in the water the day before.  That was 7 years ago, and I use the reel to this day.  The second one I was throwing a crankbait on a private lake.  I hooked a bass about 14 inches and when he got about 20ft from boat he jumped and I couldnt see the crankbait so I threw out a cuss word thinking the fish got the bait down his throat. I flipped him in the boat and there was no crankbait.  The crankbait was attached my manns speed clip and somehow the bait came off and the clip pinched the fish in the lip. I got a pic on my cell phone of it
