fishinghusker Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Well, since we were talking about worst time hooking yourself, how about any mistake in general? I will throw out a funny story: my brother was running the tolling motor, getting mad at us cause we wanted to go closer to shore, and he kept going out a little ways. We were being sarcastic, and he said "fine, we'll go right to the middle." We get there, he goes to cast, loses his grip on his rod, and in it goes, 35 feet down. Quote
MattinOK Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I suppose mine would be getting ready to fish off a dock. It was one of those floating type docks with the folding metal ramps to get to it. Well it had just finished raining. I had my rod and reel plus my tackle bag with me. I took my first step, fell square on my behind-- and slid the other 20ft to the dock. That diamond plate metal is hard on the backside. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 15, 2010 Super User Posted April 15, 2010 Had to be when I untied the boat then remembered I had left something on the dock. I had one foot on the dock and one in the boat and nearly went in the lake. Quote
cabullwinkle Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I was fishing on a river bank without a whole lot of room for a back cast. It was a nice warm summer day in Oregon and I had my tackle box sitting on a small dirt ledge about waist high. I went to cast and I had hooked my tackle box on the back cast and flung the entire thing into the river. Unfortunately, the tackle box was open and I saw all of my lures floating away! So I had to srtrip down jump in the water and save all of my lures. Definitely a bill dance bloopers moment. Quote
Gangley Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 My father and I were fishing on my grandpa's pond that he stocked with Catfish. I put some chicken liver on my hook, reared back, and right about the time i slung the rod forward I hear my dad yell "STOP", but it was too late. I looked back and saw my father sitting there, face turning red, mouth full of chicken liver, and a hook sticking cleanly through his upper lip. The look on his face as he held the tip of the hook on one hand while spitting gum-ball sized chicken livers out of his mouth was priceless. He could have killed a goat with that look. Quote
brushhoggin Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 one of the few days i was manning the trolling motor i backed the boat up ramming a stump that had a wasp nest on it while my buddy was back there takin a whizz. ;D for some reson they didn't move but my buddy had a 3 year old tantrum at 40 and got whizz all over him and the motor ;D Quote

Teal101 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Two of my buddies are in a canoe and about to land it. The one buddy is a natural klutz and starts rocking the boat freaking out. My other buddy throws the rods off the boat to the shore and hops out so he doesn't get dunked. As he jumps out the boat rocks and it sends him flying, stepping on his brand new rod and breaking it about 8" down from the tip. The other buddy flips the canoe and dumps the rest of the gear in the lake. Friggin moron ;D Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 15, 2010 Super User Posted April 15, 2010 Geese have been the cause of two of mine. Last week I slipped on a pile of goose **it walking the bank. Of course it was while a young couple was walking by, it was all they could do to keep from laughing. Second was years ago. I was climbing a hill to access another part of a farm pond I was fishing. When I got to the top, a mother goose was guarding her eggs in some brush there. She started flapping her wings, honking and carrying on like nobody's business. I tumbled backwards down the hill, emptying my tacklebox in the process. My buddy still breaks my balls about that to this day. I hate %$%##@$ geese..... > Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Not tying boat to dock right and having it drift away! Than having to find someone to take me to it to get it back! Quote
dilloniowa Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I was out fishing for channel fish at local creek( back waters of cedar river ). Theres a little house dock. I am about to cast with catfish dipstick worm and the hook caught back on my tshirt and the line snapped. The tip of the rod smacks back of my head. It was funny though. Quote

FishDontFearMe Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 when i was new to boating (still suck at it, tho).. nice day but got a freak rain shower, so we beached the boat to stand under some trees. got off the boat fine, on all fours, but fine. with my new found confidence i decided i'd go back to the boat to get the cigars, boat slips out and i'm left in 10" screaming for my buddy to come and save my new blackberry. he stood there and laughed. lost the cigars too. memories. Fish Chris Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Well, I'm going to guess that I'm not the only one here, to ever make this stupid mistake.... But I believe twice, in the last 15 years or so, I have decided to leave my line in the water after a cast, but wanted to reposition my boat just a bit. So, carefully (but apparently, not quite carefully enough) I attempted to use the t-motor, for a short move.... and the next thing you know, my rod is getting yanked down so hard, surely I must have the lake record.... but their ain't no setting the hook ! Are you kidding ? It's all I can do to keep a hold of the rod ! This happens in about .8 seconds, and by .9 seconds, my heart is about to beat out of my throat..... Then, at about 1.2 seconds, I realize, I am a complete dummy, and have allowed my t-motor to wrap around my line ! Doh ! Then, about 2 seconds after the fact, I'm looking all around me, to see if anybody just saw me do that. Doh ! ;D Nothing pulls like a t-motor ! Peace, Fish Quote
fishinghusker Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 Got one from just this weekend. It may not be so much a mistake, but just a funny/weird story. To preface, last year we went fishing with my mom, dad, and myself the third or fourth day we got our boat. My mom was killing it, she's quite the fisherwoman (my dad got a lucky catch with that one ) and had 4 white bass over 16 inches, and an 18 inch yellow bass. Also, she had two 18 inch lmb, all on the same green crank. My dad and I couldn't catch a cold that day, and we were just laughing our rear ends off. She would always call it her lucky lure, and one day, I decided to use it just to see. After a few casts, I get a snag on a sunken log, and couldn't get it out. The line snaps, and we lost the lure. She claimed I lost it on purpose, and won't live it down, always saying something about it whenever we go out and fish. Well, today, a year later, my dad and I our taking the boat out of the lake (a medium sized sand pit) and I look by the sore. I see a very lime green color in the weeds, and say to my dad, go check that out, it looks too green, I think it might be a lure. Thinking I had gotten lucky finding a new lure, he goes and picks it up. He just thinks it's another lure, and I look at it, and realize that it is the lure I had lost. The hook rust + winter, must have set it free, and it floated half way around the lake. I'm now lucky, and only have to buy two treble hooks for mothers day. ;D Quote
kms399 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I was fishing with a buddy in his ranger, I had never been in a boat with a bigger motor than 30 hp so I went to push off with one foot just as he threw it in reverse so I lost my footing and was hanging off the front of the boat by the trolling motor with 1 foot on the deck and 1 in the water, keep in mind that I am 6'1 300lbs lucky i didnt fall in. another time launching my boat I pushed it off the trailer and when I went to pull the boat back to shore the hook popped of and the boat went floating away so I jumped in after it had to swim a bit try to get into the boat all the while there is two guys waiting to launch their boat. once I got it back i realize my phone is still in my pocket my wallet... I should have just asked the guys to get the boat for me but the heat of the moment got to me I guess. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 when i was 13 or 14, my little brother and i were fishing in a little jon boat in a farm pond and we were out in the middle of the pond when something bumped my shoulder. i turned around swinging and took out a random limb sticking out of the water. he still laughs at me about that one. a couple years ago, i took his boat out and didn't crank the motor first to make sure it would run. got the boat launched and it wouldn't start so i ended up drifting 4 hours down the river until my buddy could rescue me in his pontoon boat, lol. good times. zaraspook_dylan2 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I was walleye fishing with my dad last year, and we had a stringer of 5 walleye hangin off the side of the boat. My dad took the stringer and threw it into the water thinkin it was the anchor we did catch another stringer full though Quote
Super User webertime Posted April 18, 2010 Super User Posted April 18, 2010 I was about 13 years old and was fishing a Jig with a curly tail. Snagged... Well I started to pull it and snap it released from the weeds out of the water and comes sailing straight at me. I had long enough to think "huh, would you look at that." before the it smacked me right between the eyes and dropped me on my butt. Quote

I've done that as well. So many many thoughts run through your head in a split second. HAHA. As for me. My dad & I have 2 boats, 1 bass tracker & 1 deep hull big water boat that we got from my grandfather when he passed away. We decided to go up to lake texoma & see how it ran. When we take the tracker out my dad will get in the boat & i'll back him down into the water then park. Well we did the same thing with the big boat but we didn't really do a good job of looking at the trailer before hand. We had no idea that the boat was resting on rollers on the trailer. I started to back the boat down & heard/felt something weird going on & then a huge crash. Yeah, the boat had rolled off the trailer right onto the boat ramp with my dad still in the drivers seat. Man did we feel stupid trying to fix that problem while other anglers patiently waited to launch their boats the proper way The boat ran fine that day & continues too. It's built like a tank. Quote
