Super User fishfordollars Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Feels great to get the monkey off my back. i was surprised when it happened because i had always tried in my mind to feel the fight. It was no more than several 5s that I had caught over the years. I now have nine dd bass and most did not fight any more than the other larger if somewhat smaller fish i had put in the boat. Just goes to show you it's not the size of the dog in the fight. A lot of it has to do where you are fishing, the time of year, and the depth of water you stick the fish. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 The feelings associated with each one was different The hardest fighting was my PB of 12.8 caught on a Rat-L-Trap in shallow water during early pre-spawn; it had me on my knees with about 1/3 of my rod under water. The one that had my adrenaline at it's highest was one just slightly over 10 but was caught on a Jig-N-Craw in 15' of matted Hydrilla at night. I had to sit in the bottom of the boat for several minutes just to stop my hands from shaking. The most satisfying was one I caught off my favorite structure on Toledo Bend which I knew held big bass but it took 12 years to finally break the double Ds, it has since given up 3 more. Quote
OH-bass614 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 never caught anything bigger than 6 but this brought back memories of my first big fish. it was summer in elementary school and i was home alone so i grabbed my rod and a couple bomber crankbaits in firetiger (the only bait i used when i was little and it caught my first bass) went to the corner of a pond by some businesses behind my house ad casted parallel to the bank and it hit it then it jumped and my heart was racing. it was about 3 lbs but i said it was 4 for while haha ill never forget that fish. Super User WRB Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Northern strain largemouth bass over 10 lbs are about as rare as Florida strian over 15 lbs and smallmouth or spotted bass over 7 lbs. I haven't caught either smallmouth or spotted bass over 7 and have been blessed to catch several NLMB and FLMB that meet the 10 or 15 lb goal. My PB NLMB is 12 1/4 lbs caught on a hair jig from Lake Casitas in 1971, major point in 17 feet of water. Good fish, fought hard and jumped once. Ironically I caught a 18 lb 11 oz FLMB from the exact same point, on a similar jig in 1981. The giant FLMB was unusual for a big bass, jumped twice and was a hot fighter. My PB FLMB was 19.3 lbs from lake Castiac, March 3, 1993. This bass fought about the same as most 10 lb FLMB and stayed down, pulled hard. Tom Quote

deadeye32. Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 This really brings back great memories, great topic. Mine was 11.8 in Florida over spring break 4 years ago. I had fished with shiners all week off of a dock at my wife's grandparents place and only caught 4 or 5 fish, nothing over 3lbs. I decided to take my spinning rod with a shakey head and just catch some numbers when I got my first bite. Set the hook, and felt "dead weight". When she made a run, I knew it was big. I finally got a glimpse of her and went to the bank knee deep in water and grabbed her up so fast. I went "IKE" for about 5 minutes waking up the entire neighborhood, but I didnt care. My left knee was shaking for at least an hour after the catch. Unbelieveable feeling. Quote

My second came one month later in December of 09, it was 24 degrees, early morning, and caught her in 15' of water, maybe 10' away from the boat throwing at trees with a worm, she felt heavy like a 8 or 9#er, but when I got her to the boat (without very much ressistance), she weighed 12#s Quote
