You'll learn more online than any fishing magazine .Most are put out there to advertise products

Sad but true.

One of the best ways to start is with a "state publication"

which deals with the same waterbodies you'll actually be fishing.

Local publications may offer info on local drawdown dates, special regulation changes,

current pool levels, plant life situations, spray programs, lake catch-rates, et al.

Data such as this is far more important than the advent of the next Helicopter Lure ;D

Most mags have similar articles that give no new details, just presented differently 100's times over and over.

Bass West and Gary Yamamoto's Inside Line are 2 of the best sources for tips you'll find.

Most new techniques come from Japan via California.

So for cutting edge new techniques, magazines that are from the west coast seem to be a cut above others.

Where can I find these "state publications"?

Check out the website gameandfishmag.com (I think). There you can search for your mag. I think there is a _____ Game and Fish Magazine for nearly every state. For example, I get Missouri Game and Fish Magazine frequently. It has some hunting stuff as well, so there is a good mix of outdoor subjects. It can get a little repetative (really, what mag doesn't though?) but I like it because it covers familiar bodies of water.

Although the infisherman is not exclusive to bass fishing they will teach you a lot. Very informative for me.

Another one that I'm really starting to like is the ESPN Bassmaster Bassinsider web publication. It has all the back issues of Bassmaster with a cool, easy to use format, plus the current issue. Less than $3 a month, plus theres a free 30 day trial. I think a lot of people on here would really like it.

You have to live in a state that doesn't suck which counts me out.   ;D

X2. But as far as a magazine, mine would be Bassin'.

I like In-Fisherman myself...

I also like In-Fisherman and North american Fisherman, but the question was about BASS ONLY magazines, in that respect my favorite is still Bassin'.

It's far easier to read a magazine while sitting on the toilet though ;)

But for me, it'd be Bassin.  The latest one has a nice article on wacky rigging that I plan on using eventually.  I've never tried it out much before and now actually want to.

Basswest.  They usually cover the new tackle and techniques before anybody else does(even online).  They also write to the level of the more experienced angler.   They frequently have articles that are about the mental side of bass fishing instead of just what lures to throw.  Even though I live 3000 miles away, and they don't cover my lakes, it's the only magazine I subscribe to anymore.
