XPSbasser Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Alright, was wanting to get some of your opinions on how the fishing will be after today. Fishing has been hot this whole week. Landed 11 bass on the 6th and between me and my buddy we landed 42 on the 7th. My cousins even wore the panfish out this afternoon. So heres the deal. Cold front is moving in tonight, temps are supposed to drop from upper 80s to mid 60s for highs. Rain all day tommorow. How bad do yall think this will hurt the fishing? Im sure the water will still be warm for a couple of days and I know its probobly gunna hurt the fishing some but not sure how bad it will get. Not supposed to warm up for around a week the last I checked so what do yall think? Thanks for your opinions on this.. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Some times the smallest front can be devastating but there is only one way to know for sure. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Will probably shut them down. Plus the fact that they are either on their beds or going on their beds. But as Catt suggests, go out and try your luck. I am heading up to Bethesda for a meeting and I plan to fish a great golf course pond. I do not have any expectations of catching anything but I am going to give it a try. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 The only way to be 100% sure is to go. Quote
craigco24 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The fish should either move real tight to cover, or move to the closest drop. If there are grass mats then definitely hit them when the sun is shining on them as the water under the mat will be the warmest Quote
zach t Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Same situation here in Bama. I wouldn't bother. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 For me, if I can get out and wet a line, I do. Hit the water and see how it goes. I'd rather be out than not. Quote
brushhoggin Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 i'd fish towards the end of the day if at all Quote
garland7 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The Florida Strain Bass will be the most finicky. They will move Deeper, or tighter to cover. May seem like they have "lockjaw" for 2 or 3 days. Quote
bassinbob54 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 i went out yesterday after the front passed an caught 11 on a double ringer small stick bait and went out again today an had 9 more good sized ones on that same bait..i just downsize after fronts pass over and usually have good results...Bob Quote
pitchNbass Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The cold front will definitely slow down the fishing. Downsize your bait like the previous post says, I like to use a grub or a tube bait. Try to fish as tight to cover as possible, and any deep structure and ledges. Quote
Bassnajr Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I live in new England. Fronts come through day in and day out. I just fish. If the fish want it slow, they'll tell you. If they want a faster presentation, you'll know that too. I concentrate more on water temperature, sun or no sun, and the wind. Maybe this is too simple, and maybe I'm all wrong. Works pretty good for me. Quote
XPSbasser Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 Well the fishing was slow but we managed to do decent, just not for the bass. Hit the pasquotank river and tried the bass for awhile. Nada, nothing. Finally changed up to crappie fishing and even it was slow but still managed five good sized crappie and a big ol bluegill. Friend of mine went today crappie fishing and ended up with 12 so I guess that aint to bad.. Hoping to try for the bass again soon.. Quote
