i am pretty new to fishing and dont know a ton about it but i have a question. when i fish for bass i look for brush or some kinda cover. i was just watching a show about crappie fishing and they were fishing a brush pile that was sticking out of the water a little in shallow watter.   so do bass and crappie live in the same cover? just curious about this thank you

They might. Bass and crappie have similar, but not identical needs. I strongly suggest you get a couple books: The In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies series. The one for largemouth bass, and the one for crappie. They will give you the basic background you need to understand these different species.

Crappie are a basic adult bass food source, so you will find bass around crappie. Crappies prime prey are small minnows, like bass fry. Crappie will spawn about a mouth before bass in brushy areas similar to bass spawning areas. Bluegill will spawn after the bass, again in very similar areas. Bluegill are egg eaters, so the bass will attack any bluegill near it's nesting area.

Bass target crappie during pre spawn when the crappie are spawning. Crappie feed on the bass fry and bluegill eat both crappie and bass eggs. They are all interacting as part of the food chain.
