junebugmn Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Hello all 8-) Just thought i'd "throw" this one at ya The opener up here in wisconsin is the 1st weekend in may and the water is usually cool, there are some bigger lake's around but i'm probably going to stick to a smaller shallower lake this year, probably throw stickbait's, some war eagle's, maybe even a pig/jig too! what are you goona do for your opener? Happy cast's junebugmn Quote
BassThumb Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I'm going to toss 1/8 oz buzzbaits at the beds. Maybe deadstick some wacky rigs if the fish don't feel like chasing the buzzer. Too bad I have to wait until May 29th. :'( Quote
littlefisher Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 First, I wish the state opener was now, and now in a few weeks. Second, we will probably be hitting the river first to see if the smallies have started to move up to any beds, so Senkos and finese jigs will be the first thing I throw this year. If they haven't moved up, I'll probably try some cranks and drop shots on the bridge pilings and river channels to see if I can't trigger a nice pre-spawn smallie into biting . Gawd just typing this makes me want to get the boat in the water. Best weather all year so far up here in Michigan and it makes the itch oh that much worse. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted April 2, 2010 Super User Posted April 2, 2010 Tubes...LOL Ours open 3rd Sat. of April. I took out the spinning rig today for white bass, crappies and whatever else doesn't have a season intact. The DNR guys are out there in FULL EFFECT! I ended up talking to one guy after showing my license and he ended up being really nice to me telling me they were busting people for no tickets and fishing for out of season fish.He was up to 26 people already fined. ;D Quote
b.Lee Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Before joining this site I didn't know some states had seasons to fish. That is just weird. It was like when I was kid and living in Nevada, I thought no matter where you went in the world the ocean would be just down the street. I was born in Los Angeles. LOL Quote
tyrius. Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If my state had a season opener, I'd spend a TON of time trying to get rid of it. Fishing season's don't make no sense!!! ;D Quote
Nine Miler Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I am going to stay home. It will be too busy. I'll wait out the weekend and go on Monday after work. I live less than a mile from the lake, so I can have a wet line by 5 PM. That will give me a few hours. Quote

Most of the fishing readily available to me is smaller water and packed with traffic on the opener. Quote

diver_sniper Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 It's become tradition to hit the same lake with a few buddies every year. There's a lot of dead trees, some laying down, some still standing up. Normally we would just pound it with spinner baits and do pretty well. This year I'm going to try a lipless crank and see how that goes. And maybe a suspending jerk bait. Who knows, all I do know is that May 29th can't get here fast enough. If my love for bass fishing continues to grow, I honestly don't know if I'll be happy living up here anymore. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 this season opener stuff is new to me!! good luck guys and you might want to think about moving south!! Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 WOW! I didn't realize you guys had fishing seasons up north either. That explains why almost half the people in Florida are from up north! Seriously though. I bet you guys are itching to go at it. I know I can't wait every year till deer season opens. Good luck. Quote
BassThumb Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Everyone is anxious now that the lakes are opening and it's warming up outside. Doesn't make it easier when I come on here and read about people getting their boats out and starting to get into some fish. Quite a few fisherman are out panfishing before the openers for walleye, northern, and muskie in mid-May, and May 29th bass opener. The crappies and sunnies get hit really hard in April and May.
