basswitch Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I realize that in other parts of the country/world the season never really ends, but here in the great white north we're gearing up for the start of the bass season, not to mention just being able to fish open water! My question is, do you have any particular goals for this fishing "season"? Mine are... 1. Catch a fish on a football head jig. I don't know if it's lack of patience or what, but I just can't seem to accomplish this. 2. Become more adept at reading my fish finder, I just got it in the fall and I've been using it on "cheater" mode. 3. Use more cranks, I always end up using plastics. So, anyone else? Quote
Skeet22 Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Catch my first Jig fish. Cant ever seem to give them a fair chance. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Become more adapt to the water, and learning where the fish are! Quote
DeanFishesNY Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 1. Use the dropshot more often with success. 2. Fish new lakes 3. Get a new PB, hopefully a 6 lber Quote
jettech Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I want to catch one bass by correctly reading the lake/fish conditions and executing my game plan accordingly. All my fish so far have just kinda haphazardly found my hook. Quote
basscaster88 Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 well i've already accomplished one of these goals and last week was my first week out so off to a great start! 1. catch a 6, 8 and 10 pound largemouth.(already got the 6) 2. catch something using a crankbait and jig. 3. HAVE FUN! Quote
Madd Lunacy Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 1. I have never fished with a Senko, so I want to add this to my arsenal and have it become an effective bait for me. 2. Learn everything there is to know about my new 798ci si. 3. I also want to really work on my crankin' this year. 4. Be able to consistently out fish my dad. Quote
rivafishn Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I have a couple of goals at this point: 1. Work on flippin' 2. Get a new PB 3. Pay more attention to patterns and conditions Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 21, 2010 Super User Posted March 21, 2010 Kick the *** of every fish I come into contact with. SDoolittle Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I'm moving to West Viginia in September. My goal is to catch a ten pounder before I leave Texas. Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Hmmmm.... I'd really like to get a 9 lb Smallie, but I'm concerned that my window for that (the peak on my trophy Smallie lake) might have already come and gone. I need to catch 12 more double digit Largemouth's to make 100.... But I don't expect to do that in 1 year.... especially if I can't get myself back to fishing the Florida Bass lakes more often. To catch 12 more Northern strainers would be a tall task ! I'd be pretty happy with 2 or 3. I guess my biggest goal is just to enjoy every minute I'm out there, and to never take my time on the water for granted. I'm just totally blessed to spend as much time out there as I do. Peace, Fish Quote
basspimple Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 1. catch somthing over six pounds (easier said than done!) 2. get a boat ( my feet can only take me so far...) 3. try new presentations (swimbaiting, carolina rigging, and spinnerbaiting) 4. get out more and enjoy everything fishing has to offer! garland7 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I think everyone should have a goal for the season. Mine is to get better at fishing underwater structure. One thing you mentioned, was learning to fish a jig better, Great!. Years ago I was in a small Bass club in Jax. Fl., one guy in the club would take a new lure each year, and learn it in depth. I mean he learned to fish it as many ways as possible. Believe it or not, he was always in contention. By doing this, it not only familiarized him with the lure, but also rigging methods, various retrieves, and most of all, His Tackle. Great fishing! Quote
Red Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 One of mine was to beat my PB of 6lbs, I did that in January with a 7lber, so that one is done. I would like to go out and catch five keeper size fish each trip. Also I am looking to focus more on jig fishing this season, mainly flippin and pitchin it to heavy cover. Another goal, and probably the most important, is to get my nephews on the water more, get them more involved and catching some bass. There isn't any problem getting them to go, but I am nervous with them on the boat while the water is still cold, soon as it warms up they will most likely be with me alot. Thanks Cliff Quote
ShizzleHallowizzle Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I'd like to get better at skipping my baits without backlashing. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Catch my first Jig fish. Cant ever seem to give them a fair chance. x2 Quote
BigEbass Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 2 years in as a newbie bass man - and got my boat 8 months ago - now starting to venture out in my local public reservoirs without my trusty more experienced mentor/neighbor who has guided me so far. My goals: 1) Get out on Lay Lake and Lewis Smith here in Alabama and start to learn my structure intimately - I am gonna fish every point, creekbed, hump, flat, dropoff - find many spots on spots - I want to begin an intimate mental picture of my waters and fish the entire water column to move towards consistently catching big bass. 2) Try a new technique - I will be throwing big baits - primarily swimbaits - I have done alot of reading and am commiting to it - with these tools I will probe the structure that I am becoming much more familiar with - will learn to properly probe the water column thoroughly and systematically with proper technique - and land huge bass more frequently - well thats the goal anyway - "high my name is Ellery, and I am a dinkaholic" - heh heh - stole that quote from BBZ - thanks Bill. 3) And as always no matter the outcome of #1 and #2 - I plan on having alot of fun no matter what - not to say I will not push myself!!! If I fail, I will re-evaluate - the process will be fun no matter what - if multiple lunkers happen to find my line then all the sweeter - thats the goal! Hope everyone's goals are achieved, and we will see all of our exploits on BR throughout this year Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 23, 2010 Super User Posted March 23, 2010 Win over 10k in tournies and break 8-10. Quote
bmadd Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Win over 10k in tournies and break 8-10. Don't be an underachiever or anything ;D Quote
RichF Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 1) Get the prop and prop shaft fixed on my boat 2) Make the ABA national championship 3) Win at least one team tournament with my father. (3rd place 3 times isn't good enough for me) Quote
mackkie Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 1. Learn how to fish a jig - the best thing I did last year was to really learn how to fish soft plastics, now a jig is the next "must" in my opinion. 2. Get a 5+ lber (my PB is right around 4 right now). 3. Gain some more confidence in swimbaits. I started to catch a couple at the end of last year, just need to keep that momentum going to have the confidence to pick up the swimbait rod under the right conditions. 4. Get out on my boat more. My brother and I go away on weekend trips about 3-4 times a year to big bodies of water up in Maine, but I should start fishing more locally on the weekends as well (but I do quite a bit of shore fishing during the week days instead). I hope to go 4 for 4, we will see what happens Quote
BassThumb Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I'd like to get better at skipping my baits without backlashing. Same here. It's not as easy as some make it look. Quote
rat-l-trapper Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I'd like to catch a 7 pound largemouth and a 4 pound smallie. I may be able to get bigger ones, but I try to set realistic goals. Quote
