...you were stranded in a land unfamiliar to you, that had only one body of water of unknown depth and structure; you only have some fishing line and your wits...how would you go about catching your dinner?

No rod, no reel, no knife...it's all on you...what would you do?

Am I allowed to tie on a jig to that fishing line?

How can someone fabricate ANY thing when all you have is line?

I don't really get the question I guess.

When someone says "all you have is line" I take them literally. No trees. No clothes, No sand. No rocks. No jungle. No nothing but line. Makes no sense to me.

I'd kinda like to hear fishahoilic ideas of what HE would do so I can understand the question better.

I guess with nothing but line, I'd have to dive into the water and hope to find some hooks and lures snagged on some cover down below the surface, and use those to catch fish. It's either that or prey there's catfish in the body of water, and learn how to do some noodling for real darn fast.

What about eating turtles, snails and other marine life?

1. Look for anything sharp on land that can be turned into a hook (stone i can chip, glass bottle i can break).

2. Find long narrow stick to attach fishing line to.

3. catch whatever toads or other creatures happen to live on shore and use them for bait on my jerry rigged hook.

4. if possible, make a makeshift fish trap out of rocks and a small pool of water, place sticks with line hanging down with hooks and bait.

5. Find something I can use as clothes (you said all I had was fishing line) and light a fire.

6. Wait, and shoot off my flare gun to signal that i'm stranded, or that i caught dinner whichever i decide later.

I dont get the question either - the fishing line confuses the issue - alls you have is a fishing line and thats it?  if you have no other materials I am not really sure if you can make some for of "hook" to attach to said line - so the line would simply have to be something to use for other fish catching or animal catching purposes - the trap was a good idea....

I am too slow in the brain for such things - I would use it to hang myself at some point likely cause I couldnt figure out what the hell to do  ;) - assuming it was a 200lb test line that is.

Don 't need the fishing line, in my neck of the woods there 's ants ( the larvae are considered a delicacy, they are called "escamoles " ), numerous types of cacti ( you can eat cactus and the fruits they produce ) actually the fruit of two types of cacti are some of my favorite fruits ( tunas and garambuyos ), there 's also rattlesnakes, mezquite trees produce numerous seed pods ( sweet as sugar ), there 's also frogs & toads ( frog legs ---> yummi ! ). Agave grubs are also delicious.

This makes no sense. He said "you only have some fishing line and your wits."

Doesn't this make it impossible to get a narrow stick, glass, stone, cactus apples, ants, or anything else?  or anything to light a fire? "You only have your fishing line and your wits."    Still lost here.

why are you lost...I stated what you had, not what you might acquire by using your wits.

Make a spear and spear some dinner.  Or find some craws maybe.

1) build me a fish trap and or a fish seine

2) build me a fire or find stuff for it

3) build a shelter

4) search for food things easy to catch or spear

5) build traps for other critters

6) figure out a way to get clean drinking water

7) skip rocks and be happy :)

i would make a bow with the with some of the line, find some straight sticks, sharpen for arrows and attatch the rest of the line to the arrows i made.and do some bow fishing

I have two different scenarios I would interject. First scenario is this. I ALWAYS have a PSK (personal survival kit) and a pocket knife with me... ALWAYS. It has a lighter, flint and steel, water puri tabs, compass, and a basic first aid kit. That would at least make things bearable.

The most important thing is not food, not by a long shot. A person can live between 3 to 4 weeks with no food. You'll last maybe 3 days without water. Not just any water either. You need clean PURIFIED water, so you don't dehydrate quicker from little squiggles in the water. Remember

1. Clean Water

2. Shelter

3. Fire

4. Signalling

5. Food
