My grandpa just called and told me that someone just caught an 18.71 POUND LARGEMOUTH from a local lake called New Melones which is about 45 min away from us. The guy got snapped off on a drop shot rig and he threw a jig out and it grabbed it. The fish is now the new lake record and is THE BIGGEST BASS EVER CAUGHT IN A TOURNAMENT IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE NATION.I would never have expected that from melones its not exactly a big fish lake even know its good for numbers.Wow, thats just....whoa

Wow ! Can't wait to see pictures.

18.71 would also make it a tie, (or maybe a record, by 1/100th) for the biggest bass ever in Nor Cal !

It would also bump my PB down a notch... to about #6 I believe.

But anway, that's awesome ! Hat's off to the guy :)

Wouldn't that be bad if some of the other guys "only caught" 5 good ones.... but with a higher total weight, so that this guy got like 8th place, or something lame ? I hope he still won.

That's another problem with tourney's. A fish like this should get about 40 "bonus pounds" ;)  LOL

Peace,

Fish

WOW! That's awesome! What tournament was it?

I was just talking with a buddy who says it was reported to weigh 18.1

Still an absolute monster for a Nor Cal bass, but if this is true, it would drop it from the #1 position, to about #97 or something.

So .61 lbs would drop it 96 places????  :-?

I dunno.

Doesn't look like it's an ounce over 14.

Unless the angler has a bigger head than normal, smallish hands, a shorter than average torso and a shoe size around 8 I've gotta call this bluff.

I'm sure our resident experts will weigh (arr arr) in on this one shortly (get it? Shortly?)

:D

I don't think you can call this a bluff since it was caught and weighed in a tournament. I don't think that they would give him a couple extra pounds in a tournament in which I am sure money was on the line in.

d**n thats big. Makes my personal best of 8lbs look like a minnow. Imagine watching a bass that big jumping on the end of your line, id pry have a heart attack. If it got off id have to quit fishing for the rest of my life.

Just comparing this picture to the picture of my 5.6lber I caught last year..........

Hahaha his arm is like straining to hold it. I seriously would have never expected that to come out of melones. we used to fish it all the time and the biggest bass ive ever caught out of there is probably a 3 pounder

Dang, that is one huge bass ! Looks every ounce of 18 lbs to me. And it looks to be in really good shape, too. It might even have another pound or two of growth left in it (although with a fish this size, their are never any guarantees)

Hey Cart, the thing about this photo, is that the camera was WAAAY too far away. I don't need to see the guys shoes, much less 3 feet in front of them..... or all that sky over his head.

I see people make this mistake with fish photos all the time.

This shot could be helped a bunch with cropping.

Awesome fish though, huh ?

Peace,

Fish

There is always confusion between weight in pounds and ounces verses weight in pounds and decimals;

18.11 pounds = 18 lbs, 1 3/4 ounce and 18.61 pounds = 18 lbs, 9 3/4 ounces . So a difference of; 1/2 lb, 8 ounces or .5 lbs depending on how you look at it.

This bass is the 2nd largest bass ever weighed in an organized bass tournament, to the best of my knowledge.

96 places down from who's list? there are so may listings and none are complete or accurate. This bass was officially weighed and photographed. Congratulations Kyle.
