Need advice on how to fish Swamp with cypress trees

Fished a 30 acre swamp like lake down in S. Georgia friday.  Beautiful lake about 5 or 6 ft. deep at the deepest and mostly 2-4 ft.  Zillions of cypress trees.  I was totally baffled.  Caught some nice bass and a Pike using a stick bait type lure.  The folks I fished with own the lake and they are the only ones who fish it. The pike they catch, they call a Jackfish, anyway they keep all the fish they catch. The Jack had a crawfish in his belly, so that is part of the food chain.

Anyway the bottom is real grassy so any lure you throw with a lip dives into the grass,  plastics get all hung up in the grass. The stick baits seemed to be good as they did not dive too deep.  There was no top water action as the temps have just started to warm.

What do you guys who fish this type of water do?????

If I had some kind of pitching technique I could have used that, but what kind of lures and such??

How about live bait under a cork??

Man there are so many things you could do here, the possibilities are endless. I would start out with a 3/8oz spinnerbait. Choose blades and color according to water clarity. If that doesn't work, i would pitch a jig and craw close to the cypress trees since the wood is said to hold heat in cold weather. A simple Texas rigged worm or lizard will work good too.

I live down in south.GA and fish a place like that. I do the best with a Zoom trick worm T-riged weightless. I like to use black, or watermelon seed. Also i like a super fluke weightless, also black.

I would definitely pitch to those cypress trees until my arm fell off, bass should hold in them pretty much year round. As far as bait goes, I would try to match the craw you saw as close as possible and not use to much weight  so that it doesnt sink into the grass as deep

Flippin a worm/jig/craw would be good once you located the fish. Pitching a spinnerbait with willowleaf blades in that case is a great locator lure. Also a buzzbait or chatterbait, depending on the clarity of the water and the cloud cover. Yes, even sometimes a Rapala on top, but have to be brave!
