urban_angler28 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Would a 340 acre lake still have ice when the temps have been in the 40s? Don't want to waste a drive up there when I can hit the river. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 1, 2010 Super User Posted March 1, 2010 Beats me. Surely there is someone you can call. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 if you live anywear from virginia to Canada and Est of kentucky, id say more than likely. If you live in PA, i can guarantee it. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 1, 2010 Super User Posted March 1, 2010 If it were me, I would hit the river. We've had temps in the upper 30's to low 40's, and my canal, and the lake still have at least a foot of ice. Falcon Quote
urban_angler28 Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 thanks guys i found the right person to call. I just thought someone with a lake similar in size with same temps in there area could give me an idea of what to expect. sorry if it was a bad question or i didn't give enough details. Quote
River Rat316 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Our small lakes still have over 20" on them... supposed to be near 40 all week though so by the end of the week they will still have 20" on them but the snow might be down to where you can drive off the plowed roads on them :'( We can't bass fish till Memrial day weekend though, so if they were open I would be even madder Quote

RedhookRR Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Man I would just be happy for 40 degree weather. Quote
tnhiker44 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Man I would just be happy for 40 degree weather. RedhookRR, I think it is all relative. Down in my neck of the woods we have already had some 60 degree days, but the water temperature is still 5, 8 maybe 10 degrees cooler than normal. Granted we do not have to deal with ice, but the fish are still very mellow for the beginning edge of spring. And we have had shad kills on most local lakes which makes the fishing even tougher. There is hope though... in my back yard I have trees with new growth buds on them. In a week or two the Bradford Pears will be blooming, followed by the Red Buds... and then the heralded Dogwoods (rumor has it when the Dogwoods bloom the spawn is on!). Quote
Red Bear Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 its no lake, but my uncles pond is still frozen over, its killing me, its close by and i like fishing ponds. the worst part is i drive past other local ponds every day and theyre not frozen, they all thawed within the past week. oh, and the people out here wont let me fish those ponds, i've asked... RedhookRR Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 tnhiker No I would just be happy to have the 40 degree weather, as it hasn't got that warm here since last november. I think the warmest it has been here 38 for the high. If we have ice out by Easter I'll be happy. Still have about 24 inches of ice on the lakes here. Quote
