D4u2s0t Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 EDIT: This is not a trick, these are all different fish I caught throughout last year. So all too often, we see people people make a post "didn't have a scale, but it was a solid xxx" or people trying to guess the weight of the fish. Here's a lil test for those that are interested. All fish have been weighed, and I have the weights. What do you think these fish weigh? for good measure i threw in a pickerel! #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 1 Quote
Patrick Ferguson Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 isnt that diff pics of the same bass? about 4lbs Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 nope, it's not a trick. they're all different fish. Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 id say that the bass were close to the same size 3.5-4lbs except the last one that might be closer to 4.5. i have no idea really on the pickeral... ummm... 4lbs? Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 The factors anyone needs to know to calculate a bass weight are; length of the bass, laid flat with it's mouth closed, to the center of the tale and the girth measured around the bass at the widest area with the dorsal fin compressed. Your pictures do not allow those factors to be accurately estimated, we can only make a WAG. For example your index finger is bent; could be about 3.5". The bass appears to be about 5 X longer than the index finger or 17.5" longer. The bass is skinny, maybe the girth is around 75% of the length, maybe less; 13" L x L x G/1200 = 3.31 lbs and that looks a good ball park weight. WRB 1 Quote

WRB there's rarely a picture that let's you accurately see these things though... unless someone actually gives measurements. Plus sizing references will be skewed depending on how far the fish is held from the body, angle of the picture, closeness to the camera, etc. but, if they had the measurements, they wouldn't have to post up to see what people thought they weighed 8-) btw, which pic are you talking about? I promise they are all different fish, and I promise I had zero intention of making them look any bigger or smaller than they actually did... they are not edited in any way either. no tricks, these are just some pictures I took. WRB PS; how hard is it the use a length of line, then measure the line when you get home. A good scale takes away the guess work. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Geez... My guess is, nice fish but not anything special. : Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Geez... My guess is, nice fish but not anything special. : agreed... but let me put it this way, i didn't break 5 pounds in my lake in 09, I was screaming like ike at a 4 lber lol. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 All bass around 2lbs 7oz. one is a hair under 5, one is 4.5, one is 4, one is 3, one is 2. Again, the point was not to brag about fish. Point was, it's impossible to guess weight from a picture without knowing the measurements of the fish. Quote
jb7725 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 none of those bass look like they would hit the 4lb mark but its hard to tell when you are looking at a picture Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 none of those bass look like they would hit the 4lb mark but its hard to tell when you are looking at a picture that's the point of the post... so people realize you can't tell from a picture. in these pics, the one that's almost 5 looks smaller than the one that was 2.
