Just got done watching yet another sponsor driven fishing show but I have a strange question:

Why does Shaw always have on gloves??????

Did he have skin cancer at one point?  He's fishing in Fla in 85degree weather with gloves on

What's up with that?

The chemicals on your hand are transfered anytime you touch your baits. He is prob trying to keep that from happening.

With as clear as the water was in that episode(I assume you mean the Lake Ontario episode), then the bass need little more help than sight alone.

That being said, I completely agree with you. You think he was pushing power pole just a little? HAHA!  I have never seen anyone so excited, fish after fish.

Although I have to admit, it was strangley odd how many fish were swarming around their boat.......just sayin'

I remember hearing that he has a heart condition, and the medication he takes for it increases the risk of overexposure from the sun. So he wears the gloves to cover his skin.

That's why I love watching him on TV. He strikes me as someone who genuinely loves fishing, and would be out there doing it whether they paid him or not.

One of his sponsors is a company that makes gloves that are for keeping your hands from getting sun burned.

no doubt about it, he's a master of the sight fishin game and a good all around fisherman, but the squealin high pitched fake TV voice gets on my nerves after a few minutes. I'd rather watch a Sanford & Son re-run. He reminds me a little bit of Michael Jackson with the gloves & face wrap. Maybe he's getting weird in his old age like Clunn did. That's the effect of the sun beatin down on your cranium for 30 years.

I never thought about protection from overexposure.  That make sense.  i agree about pushin the power pole.  At one point I thought the show would go like this

Shaw:  "I really have to take a leak, watch as I put the POWER POLE down so I don't hit my leg."

Announcer: " POWER POLE, so you can hit the cheerio every time....   (fade to a sunset)

Awesome.

Even my wife looked up from Facebook and said:

"That guy is trying a little hard. It's getting on my nerves"

He seems very positive. He has been around for a long time and, as I get older, I find myself rooting for the older folks more and more. That said, I too could do without the "high-pitched" sales pitch. I could do without the sales pitch all together, but apparently it is a necessary evil.  :)

you got to love when he goes from normal voice to OH MY GOD HE HAMMERED IT, that is what makes the show great ;D

no you don't. in fact, his "excited" voice makes the show almost unwatchable. i really doubt he carries on like that during a tourney or when the camera isn't rolling.

hate to knock the guy too much, he seems like a super nice fella.

I have met Shaw a few times through a mutual friend and I drove a camera boat for one of the shows. He is an enthusiastic guy on and off the camera and what you see is no false front. Yes, he definitely is pushing product but that is part of the job of running a fishing show where the sponsors pay the production costs. I think at one time Strike King actually "owned" the show

i kinda wish shaws contract with strike king would expire so he could go and do other shows that are more informative and stuff. i mean, you hardly see him on that strike king show that van dam is on all the time. i think shaw is great and i too would love to spend a day fishing with him. esp during the spawn....

oh... and i think shaw mighta picked up wearing gloves from his inshore fishing life. i did. its hell on your hands spending that much time in the florida sun.

regardless, dude knows how to sell his sponsors... If I was in the Biz, I would definitely want him fishing my stuff with how well he pimps it...

I love his show- wish it weren't on Versus though...Directv doesn't carry.

Shaw stayed with a friend of a friend while fishing the Smith Mountain Lake tournament last year and the ones that hung out with him said he is truly a nice and sincere guy. I like Shaw and I don't think the excited voice is fake but I agree it can get on your nerves in short order. I agree with others that the sponsors are paying the bills and Shaw represents them well.

I saw Shaw Grigsby driving up the Florida Turnpike this afternoon just north of Orlando.  I honked and waved but he looked at me like was a potential road rage maniac.

My wife thought he was crying on one episode..."Look at that beautiful bass...he just inhaled the Strike King Red Eye Shad with those super sharp hooks!" (I couldn't resist...) ;)

I picked up shaw's book the other day on sale called "notes on fishing and life". It's actually a really good read if anyone has a chance to read it. He does seem like just a genuine dude who has been through a lot and really is taking advantage of his time on this planet.

He seems like a cool cat to fish with.

The tone of his voice when he gets all excited...does sort of gets to you after awhile, but hey...I'd rather have that than some of these other guys with no personality.
