MN Bass Man Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 After seeing another thread that my favorite pro, Mike Iaconelli had posted, I got to wonder how many other pros use the board. I don't think I've seen any other Elite or FLW pros post here before. It would be nice to interact with them, kind of a question/answer thing about their career, pleasure fishing, new techniques and equipment they're hearing about. I know with their hectic schedules it might be rare, but it would be nice from time to time. Quote
Radical Conservative Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 What if we consider ourself a pro? ;D Quote
Wild Bill [NY] Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 To me, a guy that supports himself PRIMARILY through money he makes while fishing tournies , or guiding full time is a Pro. All the rest are wanna be pros in my opinion. Quote

They are weekend fishermen with a job that they know will pay the bills every month. Many of which are right here on Bass Resource. After seeing another thread that my favorite pro, Mike Iaconelli had posted, I got to wonder how many other pros use the board. I don't think I've seen any other Elite or FLW pros post here before. Wild Bill [NY] Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I totally agree with that statement you posted. Many guys are not willing to leave thier homes and families to 'chase the dream' of being a touring pro. Being a touring pro requires a tremendous amount of time away from home, and not only fishing the tournies, but prefishing for them, and also repping for thier sponsoring companies at trade shows, expos, and doing seminars. Often guys do this before starting their families, or do it with thier young kids and wife in tow before the kids have to enter schools, living in Winnebagos and the such until the kids get to school age. So many start-up young tourney guys live in thier trucks, driving from one event to another, in hopes of cashing a check hopefully, and HOPEFULLY making the cut to fish the big events. During that time, especially if they do not have strong finacial sponsorship, they sleep nights in thier trucks as they go from one tourney to another, eating lots of P&J or balogna sandwiches[and the such], keeping in touch with thier families only by phone for long times. It's not the glory life many would imagine when they are trying to get known and established. If they don't make it, often they may have extended themselves out finacially by gambling thier home to try and make it, coming home to a house in foreclosure, and thier wives walking out on them. :-[ Lots of guys are NOT willing to risk all that, and just fish the local events near thier homes, or get into guiding to make fishing pay for thier lifestyle that way. Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 We have a few guys here that I would easily classify as Pro's...that have day jobs.. Not going to name..names, for fear that I would leave someone out. Quote
SDoolittle Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I must have missed the Iaconelli post. What thread was it in? Quote
fishermantony Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I must have missed the Iaconelli post. What thread was it in? It's on page 2 of this forum, titled "Which Classic Patterns Video do you like the most?" It was awesome to see his post. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 I know of 4-5 who read what we post; at times they chuckle but at times they say "dang that's good". Quote

shootermcbob Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I would love to hear what some of the pros have to say about some of the questions/answers that are given here. I bet many times they would think, man, I should have thought of that. Quote

Posted February 2, 2010 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 2, 2010 I know of 4-5 who read what we post; at times they chuckle but at times they say "dang that's good". I also know of a few Florida pro's who lurk. I think being a pro is 50 percent fishing skill and 50 percent of being dedicated enough to put up with the crap that not many people are willing to go through to fish. Quote
fishinfewl Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Does a future pro count? If so, count me in! Quote
Super User South FLA Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 If I were a pro I would be using the regional fishing information posted here to my advantage, as well as plugging sponsors. So I am sure there are plenty of lurkers and some posters!! Quote
