Super User Catt Posted January 28, 2010 Super User Posted January 28, 2010 February 3rd 2007 was a nasty cold morning with Northwest winds at 15-20 mph, a slight misty rain falling, and temperatures in the middle 30's. After having launched out of Jack's 944 Marina I made the short (2 minutes) run to the mouth of Bull creek trying to stay out of the wind and some what warm. Having rounded the corner I dropped the trolling motor, picked up my Rat-L-Trap rod again with the thought in mind of keeping moving and staying warm. My third cast was into the mouth a cut leading to a boat shed which I knew had stumps on the west side, after turning the handle 4 or 5 time my trap stopped solid, I tell Pat d**n to close to the stumps so I push the trolling motor handle towards the mouth of the cut while stepping on the switch. At the exact same instance my line starts zinging towards deeper water rod all bowed up & drag slipping; I immediately scream at Pat get the net. By now the boat is moving off to my left the bass is moving off to my right and I'm nearly on my knees in front of the console with the upper third of the rod in the water. Pat net in hand is now on the front deck killed the trolling motor and with a swift motion netted the hawg; which ends up weighing in at 12 pounds 8 ounces. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 28, 2010 Super User Posted January 28, 2010 Florida Strain LM - 9.9lbs Caught on Lake Fork in April 1992. After tiring of watching my boating partner that day try to bed ****** the same fish for an hour or so, I tied on an 1/8 jighead, rigged up a skirted twin tail grub (pumpkin/pepper), and tossed it out into the middle of the channel. Best comment of the day came with a texas drawl "Luckiest Yankee I ever saw.... Catchin' a big old bass on a sissy bait!". Thanks for the memories Rick! Northern Strain LM - 24.5" (no scale in the boat). Caught on Clear Lake (198 acres), Mecosta Co. Michigan in August 1990. Middle of a bright sunny day on a Rapala Shad Rap in about 15 FOW. Smallie - 6.85lbs. Caught off the end of the "C" Dock, White Lake, Michigan. Size of lake is over 3,000 acres and connected to Lake Michigan. June, 2004. Fishing a 5" Kalins grub (avacado/red flake) on an 1/8 darter head. Late morning off the end of the slabwood piles in about 12 FOW. The smallie was the only one of these caught during a bass tournament. It took the big bass pot for the day, and anchored a five bass limit with a total weight of over 17lbs, good for first place. Nice Paydday! Quote

Tommy, just a couple more important questions: How many chips in the finish of that gold chromed Trap were there? What color were the pipes on the boat shed? Was the coffee still warm when you finally sat down after collecting yourself? ;D Man, after reading that, my fingers are numb, and I can almost smell that bass. Quote

MaineBassMan Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Well my pb small mouth is only 4lbs 5oz, but I have caught 4 of them at this weight, I just can't break that number. I caught two of them this last season within 20 minutes of each other on the rage craw and jig. Now I've caught lots of upper 3 pounders to 4lbs 3 oz. I just don't know why I can't beat 4lbs 5oz. My pb largemouth is 5lbs 14oz caught on a jig and craw. Now I've caught a lot of small 5 pounders and high end 4 pounders but I can't seem to break 5lbs 14oz. Oops guess I have to add more info: Guess I'll go with my most recent Smallmouth @4lbs 5oz> 3,500 acre lake, May 2009, 8 feer of water, Black 3/8oz jig with an bama craw colored rage craw I believe, at around 9:00am, overcast and 15mph winds, clear water. Largemouth 5lbs 14 oz in a river, April 2008 I believe, 1/4 0z green bitsy bug jig with a pumkenseed craw, 5 feet of water, 11:00 a.m tanic colored water. Flooded conditions, snow melt run off. Quote
CAdeltaLipRipper Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 8 pounder Caught it on a white stanley ribbit frog on 20# braid with my diawa procaster on medheavy rod(my frogging stick) There was about 15 min of daylight left at lads marina (California Delta). We were fishing the docks on the left side and there were mossbeds in the back of them so we trolled back there to fish it and on my 4th cast this big girl jumped 4 or 5 feet out of the water and instantly started peeling drag.Good thing i had that braid or she wouldve been the one that got away ;D oh and it was in early November Quote
River Rat316 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 SmallMouth: Memorial day weekend (first day of season for us here in MN) 5.1lbs in about 1' of water on a current seam, caught on the longest river in North America. Hand Poured stickbait in salt and pepper. 6'6" m spinning gear with 6lb mono. There was a few tense moments during the fight, since she immediatley bolted for the strong current in the middle of the channel, which happened to be where my boat was positioned. I had the 109lb thrust tm on high trying to hold off the rocks and trying to keep this crazy fish out of the tm. LM was in November. white 1/2oz hidden weight sb with a white blade water temp was 42 degrees but we were on a warming trend sunny day. Burning the spinnerbait I caught a ton of fish that day doing that and she was the last one of the day 5.9lbs 21" The lake was ice covered 4 days later. I also caught a 5.6lber this year about 2 days before ice up on the same bait, same lake, same technique. Quote
A-Rob Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 just over 5# smallmouth....georgian bay....chartreuse spinnerbait, last cast of the day at dusk! Quote
