Bass_Akwards Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I was curious to know a few details about everyones personal best LMB or SMB. 1. How big was it? 2. What Bait did you catch it on? 3. General time of day and weather? (was it noon on a bluebird sky day? After dark on a cloudy night after a storm front?) 4. What Month of the year? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 The bronzebacks in my avatar. Caught and released on the Tennessee River below Pickwick Dam in January, 2005. Bright, sunny day, rising barometer, water temperature 47*, big shinners on a split shot rig. The fat one was caught about 11:30, the longer fish about 1:00. The fat bass was just over 7 lbs and the hardest fighting freshwater fish I have ever caught. The other smallmouth is my PB, about 4" longer, but only a pound heavier. 8-) Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 7-12 / 26" largemouth (see avatar photo) caught on a 3/8oz firetiger Roostertail in-line spinner at about 3pm on October 18, 2009. Nice, sunny October day with both water and air temps probably somewhere in the 60s. Adding per Paul's request: Fishing from the earthen dam of a 25 acre lake - hooked-up probably about 7-10 feet deep, 60-70 feet off the bank. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 Interesting: I think it would be a good idea to state the size of water body and depth fish came from. Time of day would be nice, but I'll have to check my journals for that: 22" LM: Deep overcast day with rain in August from a large (60acre) quarry (80+ feet deep). Caught in 5fow. Sometime mid-day (after I got around to that particular spot). The largest I've got a thumb latch onto was a buddies 23" that was caught in 6fow on a dead-sticked jig in a small (6acre) 12ft deep pond. It was in early August and I distinctly remember the day was partly sunny with huge popcorn shaped cumulus -likely representing a high BP pattern with dropping pressure due to developing thunderheads. Mid-afternoon (?). 20"SM: 7fow in small (30acre) lake (16feet deep) on swum jig in June. Overcast from developing front. Late afternoon -~5pm(?). Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 Smallmouth - 5-4, August, 1995, Lake Ontario, 26 FOW, live softshell crab (recently moulted crawfish) on split shot rig. Can't remember time of day, but a 6-4 was boated by my ex earlier that morning. Largemouth - 7-2, July, 2005, Lake Ontario bay, 20+ FOW, 10" Berkley Power Worm - black, 1/2 oz. TT bullet weight - free, late afternoon on a clear blue day. Quote

mikesjet Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Biggest smallmouth was last march on the juniata around Newton Hamilton. 4.5lb on a smoke 3in gitzit. Funny thing was it was about 25yds away from the ramp where i hooked her. Biggest largemouth was last yr in Late april at Raystown lake. 25 feet of water with drowned wood on bottom, DT16 in bluegill. That one was about 4lb. I think it was very respectable considering the lake. Quote

Super User WRB Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 I was curious to know a few details about everyones personal best LMB or SMB. 1. How big was it? 19.3 lbs 2. What Bait did you catch it on? custom hair jig with Super Pork trailer. 3. General time of day and weather? (was it noon on a bluebird sky day? After dark on a cloudy night after a storm front?) March 3rd, 1994 was raining, light wind and perfect pre spawn conditions, water temperature 62 degrees. This bass was the 3rd of 4 bass I would catch that morning around 9 o'clock. I tried to catch the 5th bass to fill out my limit, but was concerned about keeping the bass healthy and stopped fishing to get the bass weighed. It's hard to imagine, I was dissapointed at that time the bass wasn't 20 lbs+ and released it soon after weighing. Lake Castaic, CA. WRB Castaic (main lake) was at it's prime in 1994 and has never regained it's giant bass population, since striped bass were accidently introduced. Quote
