mrlitetackle Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 there was a power plant (nuclear) on hutchinson island where i grew up in highschool.... jensenbeach FL... all of the area, the indian river, was off limits around it. i may or may not have been there a few times late at nite it had a crazy whirlpool effect that was intense, and tall fences, and i may or may not have caught snook, tarpon, and sharks from the location.... i dont know why i know so much, as i never went there Quote
Busy Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I would love to go cat-fishing around the Amazon River. Catching a huge red-tailed catfish is on my to-do list before I die. Also, although I've never tried, I've heard the the old mine pits in SE Kansas have big bass in them. I'll have to check some of them out sometime. I stay the hell off of private property, sounds like a good way to attract some buck-shot. Quote
Tucson Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I'd like to fish Cate Blanchetts lingerie hamper. Quote
bassman31783 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 There is a small lake in Tyler Texas called Greenbrier. Unbelievable lake. However it is smack dab in the center between a nursing facility & uber rich housing. The lake also has no boat ramps. The only way you can fish it is to get permission from one of the few people that live on the lake that have a boat ramp on their property. My fishing bud's best friend years ago had a relative that lived on the lake & had a ramp. My bud only got to fish the lake 1 time but made it a good one. Two 8's & one 10 pounder that he now has a replica of hanging on the wall. Legendary lake that only a few have ever gotten to fish. Before I moved up to Denton a couple of years ago there was talk about opening it up to the public but I don't think that ever happened. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I see small ponds all the time when I'm driving out in the country that I want to stop and ask if I can fish. Quote

BlueDaksi Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 There is a small fish sanctuary cove just off of the Rideaux Canal at Jones Falls, ON, Canada. It is a warm water release from a small hydroelectric dam. The fish, HUGE Largemouth bass can be viewed from a small bridge in hordes on the sanctuary side of the bridge. There is open water to the other side of the bridge where you can fish, yet the trophy bass stay on the safe side. It's incredible to see such monsters just a few feet away and agonizing that you can't fish for them... Quote

The Mined Land Wildlife Area in SE Kansas is 14,000+ acres of old mining areas with hundreds of strip pits peppered across them. And yes, the fishing IS amazing. That's where the latest LM state record came from. Just watch out for snakes. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 Pretty much any private pond around here. Some of which I have fished in the past legally now have new land owners who aren't very friendly. Fishing high pressured lakes 100% of the time gets old.....getting on a couple ponds would do me some good. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 A sandpit back in Illinois that I use to fish with my ex when we would go with her family to the retreat that her dad's company had for executives. The main quarry was huge, but tough to fish with the ledges in there while someone who didnt know how to fish was operating the boat. But this little 30 acre sand pit was dynamite, crystal clear, and just perfect. We had something like 14 fish in a few hours over 4 lbs with over 100 fish total for 2 people. No joke, I was taking off a 4 plus pound fish for my ex's little sister, had my rod resting between my legs with a buzzbait about 6 inches in the water, and all of a sudden I felt a whack on the lower part of my right leg and had a 5 lber hit the bait just hanging there. It was unreal, you could catch 2-3 lbers all day sight fishing, but go a little deeper and there were some big girls. One of his co- workers had a 6 fish stringer for 2 guys over 5 lbs, and I dont think it hurt it one bit. Quote

BlueDaksi Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I know this is reviving an older thread, but it's a good one and I just noticed this post. My Dad used to fish in the "strip pits" in the late 60s when we lived in Pittsburg. He pull lot's of monster bass out of them! I would love to go cat-fishing around the Amazon River. Catching a huge red-tailed catfish is on my to-do list before I die. Also, although I've never tried, I've heard the the old mine pits in SE Kansas have big bass in them. Helluva_Engineer Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I know of a few spots that I'd love to get a line into, but are off limits, namely local farm ponds, out in the middle of nowhere... you talk about Florida large mouth that have never seen a lure, and have populated those ponds for 100 years or more... this is why I believe the world record bass could come out of florida. I'm with you there. My best fishing has always been on farm ponds. I have seen some monster bass in them. My cousin took me to one outside of Tallahassee that hadn't been fished in years and introduced me to the buzzbait. I don't think we had a cast without a strike and every fish we pulled in was 4+ lbs. There's this one pond I drive past all the time in South Georgia that is about 15 acres with a solid 5 of them being standing timber and it has vegetation against the banks. It clearly used to be fished but has been abandoned for 5 or so years now. Quote
Thefishy1 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I wouldnt mind a few casts in here http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmaster/fishingtips/news/story?page=LunkerCam Quote
VABassin'14 Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Rock quarry in Craigsville VA. I know someone who as fished it before with the owner. He caught two bass that weighed over 8 lbs and countless others. Ive seen the picture of the huge bass, or I wouldn't have believed it . Quote
YaHoo Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 snuck into a lake in middleburg on property where there was an old abandoned church and saw a 15 stare at us from the bank just barely visible underneath a 3 foot wide lilypad. we got chased outta there but trust me there will be a time where I will fish it! but if we're talking saltwater I got all kinds of illegal or on private property spots!
